Mayor and Council Pancake Breakfast

Start off the year with a delicious complimentary pancake breakfast served by Council as well as a free family skate. We hope to see you in 2022!

Volunteer Appreciation

2017 Volunteer Appreciation Event

Each year, we shine a light on our volunteers who inspire us to make our community a better place. Volunteer Appreciation is a day where we recognize our volunteers' impact on building a stronger community. We acknowledge our volunteers who lend their time, talent and voice to make a difference in EG.

The Town is implementing a number of precautionary measures in response to the evolving COVID-19 situation. Until further notice the Town of East Gwillimbury's Volunteer Appreciation Event has been cancelled.

Farmers' Market

The 2021 Farmers' Market has officially ended for the year. We hope you had fun and found unique and fresh items and met our amazing vendors! Check back in the new year for our 2022 opening date and hours!

The Farmers Market will be held at the East Gwillimbury Civic Centre at 19000 Leslie Street, Sharon.

Recreation and Parks Month

EG is proud to embrace the movement, June is Recreation and Park Month (JRPM). Along with many other communities throughout Ontario, we use JRPM to promote local recreational programs and amenities that are available for everyone to enjoy.

Canada Day at the Market

This year the Town will be partnering with the East Gwillimbury Farmers' Market for a "walk through" Canada Day event from 2 to 7 p.m. at 19000 Leslie Street, Sharon ON.  The Town and Market have worked within the current provincial recommendations to ensure a safe environment.

What to expect:

  • Attendees will have the opportunity to shop local at the Farmers’ Market. Vendors will have Canada Day themed items available throughout the Market.  
  • Canada Day swag bags will be distributed to the first 300 attendees!
  • There will be a number of activities throughout the market including take home crafts, which will be distributed while supplies last, a photo station, and additional activities!
  • Market vendors will incorporate a Canadian theme into their booth.
  • A sweet treat will be handed out at the end of the market while supplies last.
  • Entertainment will be provided, where possible including stilt walkers!

 2021 COVID-19 process
  • Upon arrival, you will check in at the town booth, review passive screening questions, use sanitizer, and be directed to your specific seating location.
  • Please keep your distance from others.
  • There is no smoking or alcoholic beverages on the event grounds.
  • Attendees must remain seated for the duration of the event.
  • Washrooms are available for use.
  • Masks are not required but encouraged when in line or talking to staff. Masks are required when using the washroom.
  • All food and drinks can only be consumed at your seating area.
  • Please dispose of any garbage.
  • All activities take place outdoors.

 

Music Nights

Thank you for coming out and enjoying our music-filled nights at the Sharon Temple National Historic Site and Museum! We had amazing performances celebrating 50's and 60's rock and roll, the Beatles, and Bryan Adams. Thanks to our Music Nights sponsor, NewRoads!

Nature Day

We hope you had fun on Nature Day (Saturday, September 18). Thank you to our partners; Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority, Mount Albert Lions Club, and Tiny Seedlings.

2021 activity stations

Upon arrival at the Ross Family Centre, children received a free nature backpack with a tracing activity in it and a passport to complete each station, which they could redeem at the exit for a mini giveaway!

The day started off with a Land Acknowledgement, and was followed by an opening ceremony.

  • Leaf Rubbing Craft Station
    • Leaf rubbing activity to show you the details of nature, as well as a leaf cut out craft where you could write down your favorite thing about nature! 
  • Learning and Reflecting Station
    • This station gave you the chance to educate yourself on the indigenous community and honor children that were part of residential schooling.
    • You were provided with a wooden heart that you can write a message on that will be displayed on a board to honor those effected, #everychildmatters.
  • Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority
    • Fun and interactive education station lead by the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority which will allowed you to visualize parts of nature!
  • Tobacco Teaching
    • Members from the Chippewas of Georgina Island walked people through a Tobacco Teaching as this is one of the 4 sacred medicines.
  • EG Public Library Craft Station
    • Create a leaf cut out and write down your favorite thing about nature! 
  • Touch The Earth
    • Guided walk 
  • Singing Circle
  • Mount Albert Scouts
  • Butterfly Station
    • Butterfly themed activities hosted by the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority
    • There will be a butterfly release to close the event for the day.
  • EG Public Library Story Walk
    • Self-guided walk and read through the story as you walk through the trail.
  • Mount Albert Lions Snack Station
    • Organic Lobo Apples (supplied by Organics Farm), Scones (supplied by Niemi Family Farm) and Maple Candy Sticks (supplied by Don Howards Farm)!

Haunted Halloween Hike

Join the Town of East Gwillimbury for a spook-tacular evening filled with lots of Halloween fun at the Sharon Temple National Historic Site and Museum!

Remembrance Day Service

The Town of East Gwillimbury will be hosting their Annual Remembrance Day Ceremony on Thursday November 11th beginning at 10:40 a.m. The Service will be held at the Civic Centre, 19000 Leslie Street on the front lawn where our cenotaph is located.

The service is open to the public to attend in person* and will also be live streamed on the Town’s YouTube Channel for those who are unable to attend.

2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the poppy, a powerful symbol of remembrance. Support our local Royal Canadian Legion by purchasing and wearing a poppy.

*In-person attendance will be be in compliance with current COVID-19 provincial health restrictions. Practice physical distancing and where this is not possible a face mask must be worn.

Tree Lighting & Skate 

Join the Mayor, Council and our sponsor, Tiny Seedlings on November 13 for the Tree Lighting and Skate.

This event will be running from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the EG Sports Complex (1914B Mount Albert Road).

The tree lighting countdown will begin at 6:15 p.m.

  • Bundle up and enjoy hot chocolate and other outdoor treats!
  • There will be a free indoor skate from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. (COVID-19 passports are required).
    • Registration is not required for the tree lighting or the skate. There will be a capacity limit for the skating rink, so residents may have to wait their turn.

Santa Claus Tour

EG's Santa Claus Tour is coming to town again for the 2021 holiday season!

Santa will be touring through EG, spreading holiday cheer with some of his friends!

Sunday, November 14 at 9 a.m.

Santa will be coming to Queensville, Sharon, and Holland Landing.

Saturday, December 4 at 10 a.m.

Santa will be coming to Mount Albert.
