Will my driveway be blocked in during construction or have any construction within it?

  • Where driveways exist within project extents, the proposed sidewalk will go through the driveway. 
  • For work within driveway entrances, the work will be phased to allow access for a vehicle width at minimum. In these situations, a notice of work will be delivered to property owners explaining the details of this proposed work.
  • For sidewalk construction across a portion of your driveway entrance, please expect wooden formwork to be in place for approximately 2 to 4 days.
  • Should you have any concerns with having your driveway entrance partially blocked during this time period, please feel free to contact the Town Inspector on-site or the Town's Coordinator noted at the bottom of the Notice(s) to discuss a potential solution/alternative. Alternatively, you may contact Customer Service via email or by phone at 905-478-4282.
  • Besides sidewalk construction on your driveway, there may be other times during the project where your driveway is momentarily blocked during construction activity. Should you be concerned, please notify the Town inspector on-site, the Town's Coordinator noted on the bottom of the Notice(s), or the contractor to determine a solution. If you have any time sensitive appointments or commitments, please ensure you give yourself extra time in case of minor delays.

Can I park on the road during construction?

We ask that all residents keep their vehicles off the road during road construction hours to prevent construction delays, unless otherwise noted on a Town Notice.

I have a contractor expected to do work at my property, can we make this work?

Please note that the Town's construction contract will take priority within the Town's road allowance, however we are commonly able to accommodate a homeowner's private contractor if arranged ahead of time. Keeping all vehicles on your driveway often solves possible issues, however please contact the Town inspector on-site or the Town's Coordinator to discuss this.

I plan to move this year and may require a large moving van to be at my property, can we make this work?

Please note that the Town's construction contract will take priority within the Town's road allowance, however we are commonly able to accommodate a homeowner's moving van if arranged ahead of time. Keeping all vehicles on your driveway often solves possible issues, however please contact the Town inspector on-site or the Town's Coordinator to discuss this.

I have got sprinklers, invisible fencing, private wiring, and/or private landscaping on the Town boulevard. Will these be affected, if so, who is responsible for repairs?

The Town will take all reasonable measures to ensure a non-intrusive construction process, however, in cases where private infrastructure is installed on Town property without consent, damages may occur as a result of construction and will be the responsibility of the property owner to repair. Should you have any further questions regarding this, please contact the Town's Inspector on-site or the Town's Coordinator noted on the bottom of the Notice(s).

Will this work create dust and debris?

As part of the contract, the contractor is responsible to provide dust control and to clear construction debris from the roadway. The Town will take all reasonable measures to ensure dust control is in place and debris is kept off the road during construction, however, please expect minimal amounts of dust and debris.

What times during the week is construction activity permitted, and will any take place over night?

The contractor is permitted to work Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7pm.  No work is permitted on weekends, holidays or overnight. These permitted hours comply with the Town's Noise By-law for construction works.

Will my road be closed for this work?

Sidewalk Construction works do not require temporary road closures however, temporary lane restrictions are required.

I have observed an issue on Town property that I would like to report in case it was missed, who do I contact?

For all Town projects, Town inspection staff review deficiencies within project extents that relate to the project. Please refer to the Notice provided for details about the scope of work, otherwise contact the Town Inspector on-site or the Town's Coordinator noted at the bottom of the Notice(s) for further details.
