The Town of East Gwillimbury (EG) is responsible for all streetlighting on Town roads and mid-block streetlighting on regional roads. York Region is responsible for streetlighting at or near regional intersections, please visit York Region's website for more information. Lighting found in parking lots are typically privately owned. The best way to identify streetlight ownership is by the streetlight identification tag.
The Town owns and regularly maintains over 2000 streetlights within EG. These lights are regularly patrolled to identify issues; however, we appreciate your help in identifying street light issues as well.
Should you notice any lighting issues, please fill out our Online Repair form. You can also contact the Town by email or give us a call at 905-478-4282. Please note the streetlight identification tag number (i.e., 0548) and the closest address in your report.
We typically repair streetlights within 2 to 3 weeks. Delays may occur periodically due to the type of repair required, contractor scheduling conflicts, shipment of parts, weather delays and emergencies.
If a streetlight requires repairs to the underground wires, a longer repair time may be necessary.
Both the Town and York Region identify streetlights with ID tags on the pole. The two types of tags differ from each other and are illustrated below. The tags will either state York Region or EG on them as well.
