Staff have identified the need to enhance the East corners at Mount Albert Road and Leslie Street following enhancing streetscape aesthetics, placemaking and consistent built form. With York Region owning the South East corner, and the Town now leasing the North East corner building, staff have engaged York Region to explore opportunities to beautify the South East lot to enhance the Sharon gateway vision.

Further to this, staff have also identified a key opportunity to visually link the existing Sharon vision by ‘maintaining the unique character of Sharon’ and ‘enhancing the existing Main Street as a central meeting place for the community which was started in 2009.

Photo Gallery: Mt Albert and Leslie St Improvement Project will appear here on the public site.

The design and construction of the North and South East corners will continue to integrate and expand upon the existing streetscape aesthetics, standards and materials including hardscaping, landscape plantings, fieldstone masonry half walls, street furniture, decorative signage and pedestal Clock. The north and south west corners unit pavers will be removed and interlocking brick pavers are being replaced to match the other corners as part of an elevated standard. As part of this work, the Town will also be introducing a wayfinding sign and refacing the Civic Center sign.

As part of York Region’s MSPP funding, the Town entered into a maintenance agreement with York Region’s Legal division and executed a comprehensive maintenance agreement for all four corners.
