What is the Holland Landing Yonge Street Revitalization project?

The Holland Landing Yonge Street Revitalization is a collaborative project that aims to revitalize the downtown Holland Landing/Yonge Street area through streetscape and infrastructure improvements.  The core project area focuses on Yonge Street from Mount Albert Road to Doane Road, as shown on the image below.

The Revitalization Project will include:

  • Construction of a multi-use path and road resurfacing
  • Upgrades to sidewalks to fill in missing links, improve connectivity and accessibility 
  • Public realm improvements including decorative streetlighting, streetscape, amenities, etc.
  • Sidewalk connections to adjacent trail network (where applicable)

A portion of this project will also focus on the economic development opportunities of upgrading these areas. Additional projects and funding may be available for local businesses as this aspect develops and the project progresses.

 Project Background

The Yonge Street Revitalization is a collaborative project between the Town and York Region that seeks to revitalize downtown Holland Landing along the Yonge Street corridor through streetscape and infrastructure improvements. The core project area focuses on Yonge Street from Mount Albert Road to Doane Road. 

The project seeks to advance a 1.7 km multi-use path within the downtown core of Holland Landing establishing a key active transportation linkage and extension of the Region’s Lake to Lake Trail network through the community of Holland Landing. In addition to the multi-use path, below are some key components being constructed as part of the project:

  • Utility relocation/extension within the corridor by Enbridge Gas
  • Storm sewer and watermain replacement in advance of road works
  • Road works including:
    • Curb and sidewalk removal and replacement
    • Road resurfacing within the project limits
    • Intersection improvements including updates for AODA requirements
    • Localized sewer and drainage improvements as required 
  • Streetscape and public realm enhancements including decorative pavement (including Every Child Matters  Crosswalk), enhanced planting, seating/gathering areas, wayfinding signs, entry features etc.
  • Enhanced traffic signals, including new traffic signals at Doane Road
  • Pedestrian Crossover at North Street
  • Enhanced streetlighting complete with decorative banner poles on the east side of Yonge Street

 Funding

This project has been co-funded through the Active Transportation Fund (ATF). This is a Federal program that provides funding to support planning and infrastructure projects that promote walking, cycling, and other active transportation modes.

The total eligible project costs are approximately $6.3 million, of which the federal government is investing $3.8 million. The Town and York Region will contribute the remaining.

The Project Team has worked diligently to progress the design, incorporating modifications where appropriate based on comments received, and extensive coordination with various utility companies have been on going to confirm design details, schedules and logistics required for their successful relocation.

  • Request for Tender (RFT) Awarded 
  • Surveying and subsurface utility exploration works along the main corridor. 
July 7, 2025
  • The contractor will mobilize some equipment (weather permitting) and complete assessments of the entire work area and layouts. This includes pre-construction photos of the work area and properties fronting the work area. Once completed, they will begin installing temporary construction fencing and safety signage for pedestrian access.   
  • Delivery of notices to residents.
July 14, 2025
  • The contractor will continue with temporary construction fence installation and signage as needed.
July 21, 2025
  • Ongoing surveying is taking place.
  • The contractor will continue with temporary construction fence installation and signage as needed.
  • The contractor will start removal work and provide advance notice for residents directly affected by this work where alternative access will be needed. 
July 28, 2025
  • Join us for the Enhance EG – Yonge Street Revitalization project Community BBQ hosted by project contractor, Trisan Construction on July 30, 2025 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Come out to meet the project team who will be on hand at Anchor Park to discuss the project and answer questions.
 Next Steps

Construction activity along the main corridor include works on the road, curbs, sidewalks, bridge and boulevard. Construction activities will be controlled to limit impacts to businesses, pedestrians and traffic.

All construction is anticipated to be complete by the end of 2026.
