Highlights from the April 9 Committee of the Whole Council and Council Meetings:

Transportation and Water and Wastewater Master Plan Updates - Did we capture your thoughts for the future of our community? Transportation and water and wastewater infrastructure are important components of planning for the future of East Gwillimbury. View the draft Master Plans to ensure we’re on track for planning until 2051. Review and provide comments online by May 10 at www.eastgwillimbury.ca/TMP and www.eastgwillimbury.ca/WWWMP.

Development Charge By-Law Update - A public meeting was held to introduce and collect feedback on the proposed Town-wide and area-specific development charge by-laws and associated background studies. The by-law will be brought to the April 23, 2024, Council meeting for approval. Residents can learn more at www.eastgwillimbury.ca/developmentcharges. Comments can be submitted to clerks@eastgwillimbury.ca.  

 The next Committee of the Whole meeting will be at 2 p.m. and Council at 6 p.m. on April 23.

Yard Waste Collection
Yard waste collection begins the week of April 15. Yard waste collection takes place every other week on your scheduled collection day until the week of December 9. What can be collected with yard waste? Leaves, pine cones, fallen fruit, and shrub and tree trimmings. Learn more with our Recycle Coach App or visit www.eastgwillimbury.ca/waste.

Street Sweeping has Started
Spring has sprung and outdoor maintenance has begun! EG is sweeping streets for the next couple of weeks to clean roads and curbs of debris, leaves, sand, and dirt that has accumulated over winter. Please assist our road crews by not parking on the road.

Tennis Courts and Pickleball Courts
Warm weather is here and our tennis and pickleball courts are  open! We are currently renovating the Sharon Hills Park tennis courts, but be sure to stop by a court near you for some fun:

  • Holland Landing Community Centre (19513 Yonge Street)
  • Queensville Park   (1590 Queensville Sideroad)
  • Ridge View Park  (126 Dogwood Boulevard)
  • Shannon Courts (84 King Street)

Mosquito Spraying Started
EG's mosquito control program has started and consists of applying a biological larvicide to standing-water mosquito breeding habitats within the Town. During this time, residents may notice helicopters flying low and applying larvicide. Learn more www.eastgwillimbury.ca/mosquito

Farmers Market Grand Opening

Join EG’s Farmers Market Working Group
EG is looking for engaged and enthusiastic community members to join the Farmers Market Working Group as a volunteer. The group’s role is to:

  • Coordinate, promote and oversee the East Gwillimbury Farmers' Market.
  • Encourage healthy eating through a variety of demonstrations, promotions, and educational activities.
  • Encourage a wide range of product offerings while focusing on products fresh from the farm.

Charity Fire and Emergency Services Hockey Game
The EG Fire and Emergency Services unofficial hockey team is back to take on the U18 A Upper York Admirals in a head-to-head charity hockey game to support the East Gwillimbury Youth and Community Initiatives Fund on April 21 at 1 p.m. at the Sports Complex. Earth Weekend
April 22 is Earth Day! East Gwillimbury is inviting you to join us for our Earth Weekend events. We have a variety of fun activities for everyone to get involved: 

  • Eco Fair - On April 20, enjoy vendors, speakers, E-Waste collection, and fun eco-friendly activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the EG Sports Complex (1914B Mount Albert Road)
  • Community Cleanup - On April 21, give your ward a spring clean! Cleanup kits will be available for pick up at Sports Complex, Holland Landing Community Centre and the Ross Family Complex from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
  • Earth Day Flag Raising at 9:30 a.m. at the Civic Centre (19000 Leslie Street)

Georgina Animal Shelter Pop-up Dog Adoption
Join the Georgina Animal Shelter and Adoption Centre (26815 Civic Centre Rd) on April 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for their dog pop-up adoption event! All dogs that can be adopted will include:

  • Neuter or Spray
  • Vaccines
  • Anti-parasitic treatment/preventative
  • Microchip
  • Six weeks trial pet insurance
  • One private training session with Grassroots K9 Georgina
  • 30-pound bag of dog food
