Council Highlights Header

Highlights from the April 23 Committee of the Whole of Council meeting:

Items of interests:
York Region made a presentation on the York Region Sewage Works Project and Holland Landing Lagoon update. They discussed the phasing of the York Durham Sewage System (YDSS) upgrades, and the decommissioning of the Lagoons. The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority also provided an update to Council on operations, legislative changes, and 2024 priorities.

Engineering and Public Works shared an update to Council on Industrial, Commercial, Institutional (ICI) Sanitary Allocations for EG that will support future development.

The Economic Development team provided an update on 2024 activities in EG's business community, their array of service offerings and investment attraction efforts.
 
Legal and Legislative Services reported to Council on a ward boundary review. Current ward boundaries will be maintained. Staff will report back on options of when and how a ward boundary review could take place in the future.
 
2024 Town-wide and Area-specific Development Charge Background Studies and By-laws updates were brought forward by Finance staff. Updating the Town’s Development Charge background studies and by-laws helps ensure the Town has funds to support the capital infrastructure required to provide services to anticipated development. Fire and Emergency Services presented a brief overview of current activities being undertaken to safeguard the community from risks posed by emergencies. Learn more.

Beechwood Park Update
The junior playground structure at Beechwood Park is currently closed due to damage caused by a fire. The park remains open, and residents can enjoy the senior playground, sheltered seating, baseball diamond, and basketball court. If you have any information related to the incident, please report it online using the Community Parks Watch Form.
The form can also be used to report graffiti or problems that need attention at Town parks or trails.

East Gwillimbury is looking for consultants to help plan the future of municipal events. The Strategy will identify gaps in current service delivery, opportunities for connection with other departments, community groups, and existing policies such as the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Framework.
