Council Highlights

The next Council meetings will be held on April 9, 2024. Topics that will be discussed during the meetings include:

Committee of the Whole meeting at 10 a.m.:

  • Review of the Heritage Advisory Committee’s recommendation to designate 18490 Leslie Street as a property of cultural heritage value or interest under the Ontario Heritage Act.
  • Review of the proposed municipal assumption of two new development areas in EG.
  • 2023 Council remuneration and expenses report.

Council at 2 p.m.:

  • Public Meeting - The Town is hosting a public meeting to introduce and collect feedback on the proposed Town-wide and area-specific development charges by-laws and associated background studies. If you wish to provide comments during the meeting, you must register no later than April 8, 2024, at 4:30 p.m., by emailing the Clerk's Office at clerks@eastgwillimbury.ca or you can provide written comments via email to the Clerk’s Office at clerks@eastgwillimbury.ca

Annex Location Now Closed
We’ve moved! Town staff are no longer located in the Annex facility (located across the street from the Civic Centre). As part of the Town’s Space Needs Analysis, this move was identified as an opportunity to move staff to other Town facilities and further develop the Town’s hybrid work model. This move will help the organization save money and create efficiencies.

You can stay in touch with the Town:

  • In-person at the Civic Centre, 19000 Leslie Street (Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
  • You can also visit the East Gwillimbury Sports Complex Customer Service desk (Monday to Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturdays 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., Sundays 2:30 to 6:30 p.m.)

Road Closure – Kennedy Road in East Gwillimbury
Kennedy Road from Mount Albert Road to Doane Road is now open following a road closure to accommodate the replacement of a bridge. While most work is complete, construction crews will return to the area for final work, which will require a lane closure in the coming months. York Region will share updates when the dates are confirmed. Learn more at www.york.ca/roadconstruction

Notice of Construction - Kennedy Road, Ravenshoe Road and Woodbine Avenue
York Region will be completing road improvements from mid-April to September 2024 at:

  • Kennedy Road from Mount Albert Road to Pollock Road
  • Ravenshoe Road from Kennedy Road to Highway 48
  • Woodbine Avenue from Old Homestead Road to south of Baseline Road

Roads will remain open to through traffic; however, lane closures will be required from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting. York Region will provide advance notice where possible. Learn more at www.york.ca/roadconstruction

EG is looking for engaged and enthusiastic community members to join the Farmers Market Working Group as a volunteer. The group’s role is to:

  • Coordinate, promote and oversee the East Gwillimbury Farmers' Market.
  • Encourage healthy eating through a variety of demonstrations, promotions, and educational activities.
  • Encourage a wide range of product offerings while focusing on products fresh from the farm.

Charity Fire and Emergency Services Hockey Game
The EG Fire and Emergency Services unofficial hockey team is back to take on the U18 A Upper York Admirals in a head-to-head charity hockey game to support the East Gwillimbury Youth and Community Initiatives Fund on April 21 at 1 p.m. at the Sports Complex. Earth Weekend
April 22 is Earth Day! East Gwillimbury is inviting you to join us for our Earth Weekend events. We have a variety of fun activities for everyone to get involved: 

  • Eco Fair - On April 20, enjoy vendors, speakers, E-Waste collection, and fun eco-friendly activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the EG Sports Complex (1914B Mount Albert Road)
  • Community Cleanup - On April 21, give your ward a spring clean! Cleanup kits will be available for pick up at Sports Complex, Holland Landing Community Centre and the Ross Family Complex from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
  • Earth Day Flag Raising at 9:30 a.m. at the Civic Centre (19000 Leslie Street)

Pancake and Sausage Breakfast
