New trail connection coming to Sharon

The Town, in partnership with the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority, are connecting the Radial Line Trail with the Nokiidaa trailhead located at Green Lane.

Construction of the trail will begins this week. A portion of the Radial Line Trail will be temporarily closed from March 18 to 29 to complete tree removal. Trail users are asked to avoid the area and follow posted signage until work is complete.

Fire Chief McKenzie Announces Retirement

The Town of East Gwillimbury Fire Chief Rob McKenzie has announced he will be retiring from East Gwillimbury Fire and Emergency Services, effective December 31, 2023.

Chief McKenzie joined East Gwillimbury as Fire Chief in 2019. During his time with the Town, Chief McKenzie has many accomplishments including leading the Town’s Emergency Operations Centre and Emergency Services team through our first-ever state of emergency with the COVID-19 pandemic. At a Special Council meeting on Thursday, November 2, Mayor Hackson announced she was taking a short-term medical leave for up to three months.

In the absence of the Mayor, East Gwillimbury follows a Rotational Acting Mayor Schedule.  As per the current schedule, Councillor Scott Crone assumed the role of Acting Mayor until November 30, 2023.
