The Town of East Gwillimbury’s 2026 Budget was adopted with a focus on investing in community safety, programs, infrastructure, and building a sustainable future for the community. The budget ensures the delivery of high-quality services and programs while maintaining the lowest relative property taxes in York Region. The budget will result in a $92 tax levy increase per year for the average homeowner.

The 2026 budget includes:

  • Public safety investments, including four new firefighters, a pumper truck replacement and a study to identify the most appropriate location of a fourth fire station in the future.
  • Investing $1.8 million in the Town’s road rehabilitation program to improve key areas in need of repair.
  • Funding for the Safer Streets Program, which includes the installation of a radar speed board, replacement of roadside traffic signs and the installation of a pedestrian crossover on Centre Street at the Vivian Creek Park entrance.
  • The final year of the multi-year funding program for the Health and Active Living Plaza operations.
  • An enhanced investment in the Town’s Asset Management Program. By contributing appropriate funding each year, the Town is building a sustainable reserve to support the future repair and replacement of municipal infrastructure, ensuring these costs are not passed on to future residents.
  • Funding for the repair and replacement of the Holland Landing Community Centre tennis courts, Vivian Creek and Harvest Hills Parks playground structures and the installation of pickleball courts in Anchor Park.
  • Investments in technology including a website replacement to enhance resident engagement and communications.

“Planning for the future of our community while ensuring value for tax dollars is a top priority for Council,” says Mayor Virginia Hackson. “We understand the pressures facing our residents, and this budget reflects the community’s needs and feedback. With the lowest relative taxes in York Region and by keeping the increase to less than $8 per month, for the average household, the Town is keeping affordability front and centre. Whether it’s strengthening our infrastructure, enhancing community safety, or supporting local programs and services, this budget allows us to continue investing responsibly in what matters most to our community.”

As a debt-free municipality with strong reserves and a solid financial foundation, EG is well-positioned to continue delivering high-quality services while planning responsibly for the future. The 2026 Budget reflects Council’s commitment to thoughtful growth, long-term sustainability, and supporting a vibrant, safe, and engaged community for all residents.
