Council Highlights

January 20 Council Workshop

The workshop included updates on the following items:

  • Zoning By-law Conformity Update – The Town is updating its Zoning By-law to align with EG’s updated Official Plan, recent provincial policy and regulatory changes and evolving best practices in land use planning. These changes will modernize the current by-law; it is not a new by-law. A Public Open House will be held on February 3 at the East Gwillimbury Operations Centre located at 19850 Woodbine Avenue. There will be two sessions from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. For more information, visit eastgwillimbury.ca/Zblupdate
  • Thinking Green Development Standards (TGDS) – TGDS encourage new developments to be environmentally friendly, socially responsible, and economically sustainable. These standards help developers clearly understand the Town’s sustainability expectations. TGDS was first introduced in 2012 and updated in 2018. The Town is now working on another update, planned for release in 2026. A Public Open House will be held on February 19 at Civic Centre, 19000 Leslie Street. There will be two sessions from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Learn more at eastgwillimbury.ca/Tgds

We are working with our software provider to correct the issue. Once resolved, revised e-bills will also be sent to residents enrolled in e-billing. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

If you have questions regarding your account, please contact Revenue Services at 905-478-4282 or by email.

Parking Reminders
EG’s Parking By-law is easy - when it is snowing, please do not park on roadways, as our plows need access to the streets to keep them safe and clear. This includes unassumed roads. Parking Consideration Forms are not valid when it is snowing. If you are parked on Town roadways during snow clearing operations, you may be ticketed or towed at the owner's expense. Learn more at eastgwillimbury.ca/Parking.

Salt Smarter and Protect Our Waterways
Using salt on our roads, driveways and walkways keeps us safe in icy conditions; however, using too much can harm our environment. Once salt reaches lakes, rivers, or groundwater, it never disappears and can pollute drinking water, damage infrastructure, and threaten fish and plant life. Follow these tips to protect our watershed:

  • Clear snow before using salt on your driveway
  • Use a handful (approximately four tablespoons) of salt for a sidewalk square
  • After ice melts, sweep leftover salt to prevent runoff
  • Use alternatives like sand

For more tips, visit eastgwillimbury.ca/SnowClearing
