The Town of East Gwillimbury (EG) offers a variety of skating programs such as public skating, shinny hockey, ticket ice and more! Our skating programs run on our two ice pads at the EG Sports Complex in Sharon. We also maintain two outdoor ice surfaces during the winter months.

Skating programs and pricing

You can browse online through iReg to find a skating program. Exclusion dates are subject to change. To confirm a program, you can send us an email or call us at (905)-478-3826.

Public skating programs are tentatively scheduled to begin in 2022.

Adult recreational skate (17+)

Grab your skates and hit the ice for a 50-minute leisurely skate. It costs $3 per person to attend an adult recreational skate. You can also use your Active EG pass (see details below) for this program.

Shinny hockey

Drop-in shinny is a great way to play a quick game of pick-up hockey with friends and family. Players are required to wear full equipment and space is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • $6 per person for adults (17+)
  • $6 per person for seniors (50+)
  • $5 per person for youth (12 to 16 years old)

You can also pay $50 for a 10-visit shinny pass. Goalies play for free!

Pre-school skate

Our pre-school skate is a slower paced skate, which provides a safe environment for you and your child to learn the ropes of skating.


It costs $5 per person for the Pre-school Skate program.

Public skate (all ages)

Our drop-in public skating program is a relaxed skate for all ages. This is a great way to spend time with family and friends while staying active.

  • $3 for adults (17+)
  • $2 for child (5 and under)

You can use your Active EG Passes for this program.

Youth figure skate (12 to 16 years old)

Our ticket ice program is for figure skaters of all ages to practice your skills at an affordable price. It costs $5 per person to attend.

Stick, puck, and drills (12 years of age and under)

Our stick, puck, and drills program is a great drop-in program for children to learn stick handling and shooting skills. Full equipment is recommended. It costs $5 per child to attend.

Active EG and Shinny passes

Save money by purchasing one of our Active EG Passes or pay $3 each time you arrive to your drop-in program.

Active EG and Shinny passes have been suspended until further notice due to COVID-19.

 Active EG passes

Buy an Active EG Pass at the East Gwillimbury Sports Complex and take part in any one of our drop-in programs including some of our public skating programs. Be sure to check your skating program above to see if your Active EG Pass is accepted.


We offer 2 Active EG Passes:
  • 10 visits for $25, or
  • 20 visits for $40
 Shinny passes
Save money with a Shinny Pass which are $50 for 10 visits, or pay $6 each time you arrive to the program. You can buy a Shinny pass at the Recreation Services Office at the East Gwillimbury Sports Complex.

COVID-19 safety measures

Please review our new safety measures that we are implementing with our programs:

  • Mask required until you enter the ice and immediately after you step off.
  • All skates will run at low capacity and a controlled traffic flow is in place to maintain physical distancing.
  • Pre-registering protocols limiting skate capacities and cash handling.
  • Increased cleaning of common touch points and equipment.
  • Limited access to building amenities.

Outdoor ice rinks

EG staff operate and maintains two outdoor ice rinks during the winter season. You can find one in Holland Landing at Ridge View Park and the other in Mount Albert at the Mount Albert Community Centre. Rinks are subject to weather conditions, and we encourage skaters to always wear helmets.
