The Town continues to monitor and respond to the evolving COVID-19 situation. In the event of increased Public Health restrictions, additional safety measures will be implemented, which may include alteration of the schedule or cancellation of programs.

The Town of East Gwillimbury (EG) offers a variety of skating programs such as public skating, shinny hockey, ticket ice and more! Our skating programs run on our two ice pads at the EG Sports Complex (1914B Mount Albert Road) in Sharon. We also maintain two outdoor ice surfaces during the winter months.

Skating programs and pricing

Skaters and spectators are asked to fill out a Covid-19 Screening Form before entering the building. 

Exclusion dates are subject to change. To confirm a program, you can send us an email or call us. 

Skating schedule: September 7 to October 2, 2021

The skating programs below will run out of the EG Sports Complex from Monday to Friday, starting September 7 to October 1, 2021. Please review the list of programs below for more information on pricing and times. Please send us an email if you have questions.

Parent and Tot (Adult 16+ and Tot 5 years and under)

The maximum number of participants is 25 people.

This drop-in parent and tot skate is a slower-paced skate, which provides a safe environment for you and your child to learn the ropes of skating. No registration is required. Space is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

This program will run from 9 to 9:50 a.m. on Monday's, Wednesday's and Friday's.

Public Skate (All ages)

The maximum number of participants is 25 people.

This drop-in public skating program is a relaxed skate for all ages. This is a great way to spend time with family and friends while staying active. Skaters 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult 16 plus older. No registration is required. Space is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

This program will run on the following dates and times from September 7 to October 2, 2021:

  • 4 to 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday's.
  • 3:30 to 4:20 p.m. on Thursday's

  • $3 for adults (16 and older)
  • $2 for children (5 and under)
Adult Shinny Hockey (17 years and up)

The maximum number of participants is 20 skaters and two goalies. Full equipment is strongly recommended.

Drop-in shinny is a great way to play a quick game of pick-up hockey with friends and family. No registration is required. Space is filled on a first-come, first-served basis. 

When

This program will run on the following dates and times from September 7 to October 2, 2021:

  • 10 to 11:50 a.m. on Monday's and Wednesday's
  • 11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday's and Friday's.

It costs $6 per person and goalies play for free!

Senior Shinny (50 years and up)

The maximum number of participants is 20 skaters and two goalies. Full equipment is strongly recommended.

Drop-in shinny is a great way to play a quick game of pick-up hockey with friends and family. No registration is required. Space is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

This program will run from 1 to 2:50 p.m. on Wednesday's and Friday's.

It costs $6 per person and goalies play for free!

Youth Shinny (Ages 12 to 16)

The maximum number of participants is skaters and two goalies. Full equipment is strongly recommended.

Grab your skates and hit the ice for a 50-minute leisurely skate. No registration is required. Space is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

EGSC Ticket Ice (All ages)

The maximum number of participants is 25 people.

Our ticket ice program is for figure skaters of all ages to practice your skills at an affordable price. No registration is required. Space is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

This program will run from 3:30 to 4:20 p.m. on Monday's.

It costs $5 per person.

Stick and Puck (12 years of age and under)

The maximum number of participants is 25 people.

Our drop-in Stick & Puck program is a freestyle skate for children 12 and under to practice skating and shooting with their stick and puck. Space is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

This program will run on the following dates and times from September 7 to October 2, 2021:

  • 6:30 to 7:20 a.m. on Thursday's (Exact cash only)
  • 4 to 4:50 p.m. on Friday's.

It costs $5 per child.

Family Skate (All ages)

The maximum number of participants is 25 people.

Active EG and Shinny passes

Save money by purchasing one of our Active EG Passes or pay $3 each time you arrive to your drop-in program.

 Active EG passes

Buy an Active EG Pass at the East Gwillimbury Sports Complex and take part in any one of our drop-in programs including some of our public skating programs. Be sure to check your skating program above to see if your Active EG Pass is accepted.

We offer two Active EG Passes:
  • 10 visits for $25, or
  • 20 visits for $40
 Shinny passes
Save money with a Shinny Pass which are $50 for 10 visits, or pay $6 each time you arrive to the program. You can buy a Shinny pass at the Recreation Services Office at the East Gwillimbury Sports Complex.

COVID-19 safety measures

Please review our new safety measures that we are implementing with our programs:

  • Mask required until you enter the ice and immediately after you step off.
  • All skates will run at low capacity and a controlled traffic flow is in place to maintain physical distancing.
  • Pre-registering protocols limiting skate capacities and cash handling.
  • Increased cleaning of common touch points and equipment.
  • Limited access to building amenities.

Outdoor ice rinks

EG staff operate and maintains two outdoor ice rinks during the winter season. You can find one in Holland Landing at Ridge View Park and the other in Mount Albert at the Mount Albert Community Centre. Rinks are subject to weather conditions, and we encourage skaters to always wear helmets.
