The Town of East Gwillimbury (EG) offers a variety of skating programs such as public skating, shinny hockey, ticket ice and more! Our skating programs run on our two ice pads at the EG Sports Complex (1914B Mount Albert Road) in Sharon. We also maintain two outdoor ice surfaces during the winter months.

Skating programs and pricing

The skating programs below will run out of the EG Sports Complex, starting October 9, 2021 through to March 31, 2022. Please review the list of programs below for more information on pricing and times. We accept cash, credit and debit (no tap). Please send us an email if you have questions.

Parent and Tot (Adult 16+ and Tot 5 years and under)

This drop-in parent and tot skate is a slower-paced skate, which provides a safe environment for you and your child to learn the ropes of skating. No registration is required. Space is filled on a first-come, first-served basis. 

When

This program will run from 9 to 9:50 a.m. on Monday's, Wednesday's and Friday's.

Public Skate (All ages) 

This drop-in public skating program is a relaxed skate for all ages. This is a great way to spend time with family and friends while staying active. Skaters 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult 16 plus older. No registration is required. Space is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

This program will run on the following dates and times from October 9, 2021 to March 31, 2022:

  • 4 to 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday's.
  • 3:30 to 4:20 p.m. on Thursday's.
  • 6:30 to 8:20 p.m. on Saturday's
  • 3:30 to 4:20 p.m. on Sunday's

Adult Shinny Hockey (17 years and up)

The maximum number of participants is 20 skaters and two goalies. Full equipment is strongly recommended.

Drop-in shinny is a great way to play a quick game of pick-up hockey with friends and family. No registration is required. Space is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • 10 to 11:50 a.m. on Monday's.
  • 11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday's.
  • 10 to 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday's.
  • 11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. on Friday's.
  • 5:30 to 6:20 p.m. on Sunday's

Senior Shinny (50 years and up)

Stick and Puck (12 years and under)

Starting Friday, December 10, the capacity limit for this drop-in program is 20 people. Space is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Our drop-in Stick & Puck program is a freestyle skate for children 12 and under to practice skating and shooting with their stick and puck (parent accompany is allowed). Ringette players are also welcome to join! Space is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Adult Skate (17 years and up)

Grab your skates and hit the ice for a 50-minute leisurely skate. No registration is required. Space is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • 1 to 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday's.
  • 2 to 2:50 p.m. on Thursday's.

Family Skate (All ages)

Ticket Ice (All ages) 

Our ticket ice program is for Skate Canada figure skaters of all ages to practice your skills at an affordable price. A Skate Canada Membership card/number is required for this program.

This program will run in Monday's from 3:30 to 4:20 from October 9, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

Active EG and Shinny Passes

Save money by purchasing one of our Active EG Passes or pay $3 each time you arrive to your drop-in program.

Active EG passes

Buy an Active EG Pass at the EG Sports Complex and take part in any one of our drop-in programs including some of our public skating programs. Be sure to check your skating program above to see if your Active EG Pass is accepted.

We offer two Active EG passes:

  • 10 visits for $25
  • 20 visits for $40
Shinny pass
Save money with a Shinny pass which are $50 for 10 visits, or pay $6 each time you arrive to the program. You can buy a Shinny pass at the Recreation Services Office at the EG Sports Complex.

Ice rentals

You can book ice time at the East Gwillimbury Sports Complex in Sharon. Find out how to book your spot by visiting our Ice Rentals page. Contact our Recreation Services Office by email or, call us at (905)-478-3826 to check availability.

Outdoor ice rinks

EG staff operate and maintains two outdoor ice rinks during the winter season. You can find one in Holland Landing at Ridge View Park and the other in Mount Albert at the Mount Albert Community Centre. Rinks are subject to weather conditions, and we encourage skaters to always wear helmets.
