A look back 

A Special Council meeting took place at 6 p.m.; staff shared a presentation on EG’s proposed sign by-law. 

A look forward 

Committee of the Whole Council (CWC) – September 10, 2025 – 10 a.m. 

The Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee will bring forward a report that recommends that Council approve funding for the 2026 Lunar New Year event in EG. 

Draft 2026 Business Plans will be shared by the Town and Library

Parks, Recreation and Culture (PRC) will bring forward a report on an Events Strategy for EG.  

PRC will also share a memo with Corporate Services on the Health and Active Living Plaza Grand Opening Program

Engineering and Public Works will share a report on a Petition for Drainage Works by Owners – Keswick Marsh. 

Development Services will share a report on a Telecommunications Tower at Bathurst and South Road. They will also share memos on: 

Council – 2 p.m. 

There are several minutes for adoption on the agenda, correspondence for consideration and confirming by-laws. 

As a part of the agenda, Council will proceed into a Closed Meeting.

Carnaby Park Art
Calling all Canadian artists! EG is looking for art in Carnaby Park (80 Alvin Pegg Drive). Are you a professional, Canadian artist? Your art could be featured in EG! 

The proposed artwork should explore themes that: 

  • Showcase or narrate a significant aspect of Canadian history, with an emphasis on national identity and remembrance. 
  • Reflect on Canada’s role in the Battle of Vimy Ridge, honouring the contributions and sacrifices made by Canadians. 
  • Is visually engaging from all perspectives and constructed using durable, weather-resistant materials, to ensure longevity in an outdoor park setting.

Newcomer Welcome Week
The EG Newcomer Welcoming Week Celebration: Family Fun and Info Event is a free event open to all York Region residents to celebrate diversity, welcome newcomers, and host an engaging evening of family-friendly activities. The event will highlight this year’s York Region Newcomer Welcoming Week theme, Stories We Share, by featuring book readings, food, performances, and traditional knowledge sharing that are rooted in a diversity of cultures. You can find:

  • A Chinese calligraphy activity lead by an EG Cultural Arts Instructor.
  • A smudging ceremony and drumming circle.
  • Child-friendly fun activities provided by York Region.
  • Info booths by the Town of East Gwillimbury, York Region, and the EGPL to share information about municipal, regional, and library programs and services.
  • Inflatable equipment activities, face-painting, and a balloon-twist artist
  • And much more!

The first 150 attendees will receive vouchers for a free meal and beverage.

Fire Prevention Open House
Join us on September 20 at the Queensville Fire Station (1590 Queensville Sideroad) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the Fire Prevention Open House! Enjoy a free BBQ, truck tours, fire and life safety education, community partners, and live demos. National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Week 
September 23 to 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (NDTR) week, a week spent remembering and acknowledging Indigenous children who did not return home from residential schools as well as honoring the survivors, their families, and communities. EG has multiple events throughout the week including;  

NDTR and Orange Shirt Day Reconciliation Exhibit:  

  • September 23 to 27 (during library hours) 
  • East Gwillimbury Public Library – Holland Landing Branch

  • September 30 at the Sharon Museum and Gardens
