Council Highlights 

Two public meetings were held on January 27 for: 

  • Sharon Heritage Conservation District (HCD) - East Gwillimbury is completing an HCD Study for the community of Sharon. The HCD would provide guidelines and policies to support decision-making and planning for the areas. Residents can provide feedback and learn more at eastgwillimbury.ca/Sharonhcd.

  • Official Plan Amendment Application - For 18830, 18858 and 18880 Second Concession Road and Part Lot 105, Concession 1 R-Plan 65R 30457. This development proposes three eight-storey mid-rise apartment buildings with a total of 322 units, 708 townhouse units (620 back-to-back, stacked townhouses and 88 lane-based townhouses), 34 lane-based semi-detached dwellings, a new internal road network, a public park, and a stormwater management pond. Residents can provide feedback and learn more here.

Public Meetings - Engage with EG
The community is invited to learn more about both projects, ask questions and share thoughts and ideas at the upcoming open house sessions for:

Official Plan (OP) Review and Complete Communities Secondary Plan
Tuesday, February 17, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the EG Operations Centre, 19850 Woodbine Ave. EG’s Official Plan was adopted in 2022. However, it has been updated to align with the Provincial Planning Statement, which was updated in 2024, and EG’s Complete Communities Secondary Plan. Residents are welcome to attend the open house to learn more about the changes.

Thinking Green Development Standards (TGDS)
Thursday, February 19, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the EG Civic Centre, 19000 Leslie St. Join the project team to review the proposed TGDS for new developments and share ideas on the project. The TGDS outline the Town’s sustainability expectations and encourages new developments to be environmentally friendly, socially responsible, and economically sustainable.

Zoning By-law
Are you planning to renovate or build on your property? The Zoning By-law includes regulated and required setbacks, heights and coverage for buildings. EG is hosting a public meeting for the Zoning By-law to ensure conformity with applicable provincial, regional and municipal legislation. The public meeting will be held on February 3 from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. (presentation followed by a question-and-answer session with staff at the EG Operations Centre (19850 Woodbine Ave.) Learn more at eastgwillimbury.ca/ZoningBylaw.

Snow Clearing Assistance Program
EG is offering a Snow Removal Financial Assistance program to help seniors and residents with disabilities cover snow removal costs. Eligible residents who hire a service provider to remove snow from their driveways and/or walkways over the 2025 to 2026 winter season will be eligible for a $150 grant. Apply by April 15, 2026, at eastgwillimbury.ca/SnowAssistance.

Submit Proposals for Public Art in Carnaby Park 
We are calling all professional Canadian artists to apply to feature their art in EG! Submit an art piece proposal for consideration in Carnaby Park located in the community of Queensville by April 30, 2025, at 3 p.m. 

Proposals must showcase Canadian history, national identity, remembrance or Canada’s role in the Battle of Vimy Ridge. Learn more at eastgwillimbury.ca/ArtsAndCulture.  

Find your 2026 Property Tax Information Online
The 2026 interim tax bills have been mailed. If you did not receive your bill, please contact the Town at 905-478-4282, and we will re-issue the bill. The first installment due date is February 27, 2026. Visit eastgwillimbury.ca/PropertyTax.

Summer Camp Registration Opens Soon!
Get ready to plan the best summer ever! Summer Camp registration opens on February 16 at 10 a.m. for residents, and February 23 at 8:30 a.m. for non-residents. In-person registration will be available on Family Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the HALP (160 Jim Mortson Drive) and EG Sports Complex (1914B Mount Albert Road) in Customer Service. The 2026 Summer Camp Guide will be available online on February 4 at eastgwillimbury.ca/SummerCamp.

Black History Month
We’re excited to celebrate Black History Month (BHM) 2026 with two meaningful events. This year’s BHM theme is “Fostering our Interconnectedness”. Join us for:

Pan-African Flag Raising in Partnership with the Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association (NACCA) -
February 4 from 3 to 3:30 p.m. at the EG Civic Centre Community flagpole. Following the event, guests are invited to enjoy a meal provided by Irie Bistro in the Civic Centre Atrium.

BHM Market and Community Event in Partnership with the East Gwillimbury Public Library -
February 21 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the HALP. Shop from black-owned businesses, and experience an African drumming workshop, socasize fitness class, mixed media workshop, and author reading with Nadia Hohn.
