Town Looking to Identify Key Issues for Local Businesses

In recognition of the significant impact of the pandemic on local businesses, the Town of EG will be launching a Business Retention & Expansion (BR + E) interview initiative to better understand and respond to the needs of local businesses.

This project will use phone interviews to survey businesses to gain insights into how to best support their ongoing recovery. Analysis of the survey results will provide the Town with a comprehensive understanding of the future plans and needs of local businesses,...

Overnight permit parking permits available

The Town is offering a new permit-based overnight parking program. 
The permitted parking program has been developed as a measure to address immediate parking challenges in the community while a more comprehensive analysis is undertaken.

Notice of Construction - Yonge Street

The next phase of construction is starting on Yonge Street from Davis Drive to Green Lane in the Town of Newmarket and Town of East Gwillimbury.

Description:

Widening the road from four to six lanes and improving comfort and safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

Improvements will include:

  • High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes
  • Wider sidewalks
  • New cycle tracks
  • Streetscaped centre medians
  • Upgraded traffic signals and lighting
  • Freshly paved road surface

Duration:

  • August 2025 to Late 2027

Temporary Road Closure - Mount Albert Road

Mount Albert Road between McCowan Road and Highway 48 will be temporarily closed starting Tuesday, August 5, 2025 for approximately nine weeks to facilitate work on the existing bridge structures and the reconstruction of the Highway 48 and Mount Albert Road intersection. This closure is being led by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO).  

Impacts to travellers:

  • All eastbound traffic on Mount Albert Road between McCowan Road and Highway 48 will be restricted
