Watercolour Basics Made Easy - February 23, 2026

Time: 1 to 3 p.m.

Location: Health and Active Living Plaza

Cost: $20 (Seniors Club Member - $15)

Description: What is watercolour? Learn about the basics of paper, paint and water containers in the context of watercolour. This is an introductory class with the purpose of introducing beginner level watercolour techniques, from how to hold a brush to hands-on application of basic brush techniques. Come learn about the five ways that watercolour behaves and play around with all the techniques! The purpose of this workshop is for beginners to explore the effects of watercolour, there is no right or wrong in this class - only discovery!

Watercolour Techniques in Action - March 2, 2026

Time: 1 to 3 p.m.

Location: Health and Active Living Plaza

Cost: $20 (Seniors Club Member - $15)

Description: Beginner level watercolour workshop focusing on introducing wet-on-wet paint application, exploring light texture techniques as well as create a finished painting using simple, forgiving shapes. Guided by our Art Instructor Bev, participants will be supported at each stage of the watercolour process to create a finished product by the end of the sessions. Come explore your artistic side!

Psychic Scammers - March 10, 2026

Description: Ever had a curiosity in fortune tellers or psychics who can claim to speak to the afterlife? While a few fortune tellers or psychics who say they can talk to the dead may be sincere, most are really just running scams and using clever tricks to take advantage of people they see as easy targets. In this seminar, you'll learn about how these psychic scams work and how to protect yourself from being fooled. This 90 minute presentation is given by Dr. Vincent Sacco, who spent over several decades as a Criminology Professor at Queen's University before retiring. He has a long standing interest in skepticism and the paranormal, along with experience as an amateur magician since his childhood.

Ears to Life: Understanding and Managing Hearing Loss - March 31, 2026

Description: Come explore how our ears work , learn about the common causes of hearing loss, and the impact that it can have on daily life and well-being. We'll look at ways to address hearing challenges, the services available for support, and the different types of hearing aid that can improve communication and quality of life.  The Power of Your Health History - April 7, 2026

Time: 1 to 2 p.m.

Description: Why does having a complete and accurate health history matter more than ever? Many people are surprised to learn that medical information are often scattered across different doctors, hospitals, and clinics. When information is missing or incomplete, it can lead to delays, repeated tests, medication mistakes, or less effective care. In this session, participants will learn how to be prepared, ask the right questions and work confidently with their own doctors to ensure safer, more personalized care. It includes real-life stories that show how small actions can make a big difference, along with straight forward tips that anyone can use - no computers, smartphones, or technical skills required.

Description: Join us for an engaging and informative workshop focused on Healthy Aging and Fall Prevention led by Miriam Mohamed from York Region's Community & Health Services Department. This session will cover key topics essential for maintaining independence and well-being as we age, including: Healthy Eating, Staying Active, Medication Safety, Staying Socially Connected and Fall Prevention

 Brain Health and Dementia - May 5, 2026
Time: 1 to 2 p.m.

Description: As we grow older, it is natural for our brains to change. Some changes, such as taking longer to recall names or needing more time to learn new information are a normal part of aging and do not interfere with daily life. However, other changes may signal something more serious.

 

In this session, we will explore the key differences between typical age-related memory changes and the possible warning signs of dementia. We will also discuss what dementia looks like within our own community, including how it can affect individuals, families and caretakers. Finally, we will highlight evidence-based steps that anyone can take at any age to support brain health and reduce the risk of developing dementia. Presented by Emily Justus from York Alzheimer Society.

Description: A comprehensive introduction to Osteoporosis, including what it is, who is at risk and why bone health matters at every stage of life. This session explore key risk factors, early warning signs and practical strategies for maintaining and healthy bones. You'll gain insight into effective ways of reducing your risk of fractures, discover supportive resources and understand how nutrition, physical activity and lifestyle choices play a critical role in bone health.
