Council highlights meeting banner

Council Highlights from February 6 Committee of the Whole Meeting:

Redwood Properties – Redwood Properties provided an overview of their proposal for 18477 Yonge Street, located north of Green Lane, next to Fieldgate plaza. The property currently has an application for an Official Plan Amendment and Zoning By-Law Amendment.  
 
A statutory Public Meeting was held on November 21, 2023, and a Public Information Centre for the Environmental Assessment was held on January 30, 2024.  
 
A future Public Meeting will be held in March. Further details will be shared on Town Communications. Residents can sign up for updates on these applications by emailing planning@eastgwillimbury.ca

Nokiidaa Trail Parking – Staff have now received the required approvals to construct additional overflow parking for the Nokiidaa Trail. The lot will be on Yonge Street, south of the bridge, at Mount Albert Road. Construction of the parking lot will begin this spring.  

Development Applications Update – Residents can see a list of all open residential, industrial, commercial, institutional, and mixed-use applications by using the Town’s interactive mapping tool at www.eastgwillimbury.ca/planningapplications. Each application has its own project page with available planning details for more information.  

New All-Way Stop – Committee approved the recommendation to add a new all-way stop at Spruce Avenue and Samuel Lount Road. Construction is anticipated to occur this spring.

Are you interested in learning about the history of the Sharon Village area? Share your thoughts at EG's second Public Information Centre for the Sharon Heritage Conservation District (HCD) Study on Thursday, February 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the EG Civic Centre (19000 Leslie Street). Attend the meeting to:

• Learn more about the project and potential next steps
• Review options for proposed HCD boundaries

Drop-in Programs
EG has many Drop-in Programs for you to join, such as:

  • Active EG Fitness – First come first serve basis until April 19, no registration required 
  • Active Start in partnership with Pulsars Gymnastics – Fridays until March 8
  • Artist Drop-in – Mondays and Thursdays at the Holland Landing Community Centre and the Ross Family Complex
  • Pickleball programs – Monday to Friday at the Ross Family Complex and the Harvest Hills Activity Centre. Various program times are available. 
  • Volleyball/Badminton – Wednesdays at the Ross Family Complex
  • Walking/Open Gym – Thursdays at the Ross Family Complex

York Region - Notice of Construction on Yonge Street from Davis Drive to Green Lane
Large hydro poles will be installed by York Region on Yonge Street between Davis Drive and Green Lane. Sections of Yonge Street will be temporarily closed to traffic during installation. Short road closures and lane reductions are expected in February and March. Learn more at york.ca/YongeStreet
