Council Approves Climate Adaptation and Community Energy Plans
East Gwillimbury (EG) Council has approved the Town's Climate Adaptation Plan (CAP) and Community Energy Plan (CEP), creating a roadmap to help our community respond to climate change and support sustainable growth.
Climate Adaptation Plan
The CAP outlines actions to help the community prepare for and respond to the impacts of climate change, including:
  • Strengthening municipal infrastructure and services
  • Improving preparedness for extreme weather events
  • Protecting natural assets and ecosystems
  • Reducing climate-related risks to residents and businesses
Community Energy Plan
The CEP provides a roadmap to reduce emissions and support sustainable growth by:
  • Improving energy efficiency across the community
  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions
  • Supporting lower energy costs for residents and businesses
  • Advancing EG's long-term net-zero goals by 2050
These plans provide the framework to help the Town pursue grant funding opportunities, support partnerships, connect residents with current and future programs, and provide education about energy efficiency and climate preparedness. Learn more and view the plans at eastgwillimbury.ca/environment.
Watch for Your Voter Information Letter
Your Voter Information Letter will be arriving in your mailbox soon. This important letter contains the information you'll need to vote in the 2026 Municipal and School Board Election, including your voting credentials and instructions for casting your ballot. When your letter arrives, review the information carefully and store it in a safe place until you're ready to vote. Your voting credentials are unique to you and should not be shared with anyone.

Help Design East Gwillimbury's Official "I Voted" Sticker! 
Calling all young artists in Grades 4 to 6! EG is inviting students to design the official 2026 Municipal and School Board Election "I Voted" sticker. The winning design will be printed and handed out to voters during the election. This is a fun opportunity to learn about local government, celebrate democracy, and showcase your creativity. 
Contest Details:
  • Open to EG residents and students in Grades 4 to 6 
  • Submission Deadline: October 1, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. 
  • The Town will share the top submissions and the community will help vote for the final winner! 
  • The winning student will be recognized by the Town and have their sticker distributed on election day

Learn, Play, and Stay Active: Fall Registration Now Open
Don’t miss out on your favourite activity this fall! Registration is open for fall recreation programs and programming starts the week of September 28.
Program highlights include:
  • Kinder School Explorers (ages 3 to 5): Learn through play while building confidence and skills for school
  • Little Kickers Karate (ages 4 to 6): Get active and involved in the basic self defense techniques and movements as taught in Shotokan Karate
  • Children’s Yoga and Beyond (ages 6 to 9): Explore movement and mindfulness while building strength, balance, and focus
  • Tumble Stars Gymnastics (ages 7 to 11): Learn and build upon basic gymnastic skills
  • NEW! Art Adventures (ages 9 to 15): Strengthen your drawing skills while also learning a variety of art techniques and mediums

  • Watercolour Journey with Bev (ages 55+): Explore painting techniques, brushwork, and colour mixing in a welcoming class designed for beginners and intermate artists. All materials are provided

Indoor Playground at the HALP
Looking for a fun indoor activity for the kids? The Indoor Playground at the HALP features two play structures designed for different age groups and is free to enjoy. Before your visit, check the online availability calendar for the latest open play hours. The calendar is updated in real time and reflects any program use, birthday party bookings, or maintenance closures.

To help keep the playground clean and comfortable for everyone, please remove your shoes and place them on the shoe mats at the entrance. Socks must be worn by all children and adults on and around the playground.

Silver Screamers Movie Screening
Lights, camera, action! EG is excited to share an exclusive screening of the documentary Silver Screamers. Open to anyone 16+, get your tickets now for the screening taking place on September 23 at 1 p.m. at SilverCity Newmarket (18195 Yonge Street). Silver Screamers is a documentary that follows a group of spirited seniors as they embark on an extraordinary adventure far outside their comfort zones: making a horror film. Don't miss this unique big-screen experience. Come celebrate the stars, the filmmakers, and the magic of moviemaking. Celebrating the Arts presented by Rice Group
In honour of Ontario Culture Days, join us on September 26, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the HALP for a community-wide celebration of the arts, cultures, cuisine, and heritage that make EG so special! Presented by the Rice Group, Celebrating the Arts is a dynamic event designed to connect the community through engaging artistic experiences, cultural expression, and shared moments of creativity for the whole family to enjoy.
Free activities to enjoy throughout the day include:

Older Adult Programs and Events
Join us on September 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the EG Sports Complex for an in-person Volunteer Information Session. Learn about volunteer opportunities, meet Town staff, ask questions, and find out how your skills and experience can make a positive impact in the community.

Then, on October 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., join us for the Older Adult Health, Wellness and Information Fair at the HALP to connect with local organizations, explore programs and services, and discover resources that support healthy and active aging.

Repair Café: Limited Space Available
Love It. Break It. Fix It. Give your broken items a second chance at a York Region Repair Café! In partnership with EG, the EGPL and NewMakeIt, this free event on September 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the EGPL Queensville Branch (160 Jim Mortson Drive), connects York Region residents with volunteer fixers. They can help repair everything from clothing and jewelry to bicycles and small household items. Space is very limited. To register, visit york.ca/RepairCafe.

Fire Prevention Week Open House
Join EG Fire and Emergency Service for its Fire Prevention Open House on September 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Queensville Fire Station 2-8 (1590 Queensville Sideroad). This free outdoor event will feature educational displays, live demonstrations, community partners, family-friendly activities, food, and more. This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower. Residents are invited to enjoy a day of free family-friendly activities, including:
  • Truck tours
  • Fire life and safety information
  • Interactive demonstrations

Business Plan Bootcamp is a free eight-week entrepreneurship program from YSpace York-Simcoe at York University, designed for aspiring and existing business owners. Participants receive expert-led workshops, eight hours of one-on-one mentorship, bi-weekly support from a program officer, and in-person peer networking. Songs in the Key of EG - Drop a Beat! 
Teens ages 13+ are invited to join local songwriter and educator Tiiu Strutt in the studio to explore loops, create beats, and add their own voice through singing or rapping. Join us on October 3 from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Queensville Branch (160 Jim Mortson Drive) for this free drop-in program, part of Tiiu's Creator in Residence series at EGPL celebrating creativity, songwriting, recording, nature, and community. 
York Region Construction
As part of the Yonge Street widening and improvement project from Davis Drive to Green Lane, traffic lanes between Davis Drive and London Road have shifted to the east side of Yonge Street to accommodate construction. Two lanes in each direction will remain open, with access to driveways and entrances maintained. Pedestrians should use the sidewalk on the east side of Yonge Street between Davis Drive and Kingston Road, and the west-side sidewalk between Kingston Road and Green Lane.
