A look back  – 

Committee of the Whole Council (CWC) – 2 p.m. 

Corporate Services reported on Strategic Workforce Planning. 

A joint Corporate Services and Development Services (DS) presentation and memo, "Thinking Green! Development Standards Update Process" was on the agenda. 

DS reported on an application for a Telecommunication Tower at 19442 2nd Concession Road. Staff will investigate further and report back at a future meeting. 

DS also shared: 

  • A report from the Planning Branch - DS2025-10: Official Plan Amendment, Zoning By-law Amendment and Allocation Request, 19820 Holland Landing Road, from 6ix Development Inc. 
  • A report from the Planning Branch - DS2025-11: Extension of Draft Plan of Standard Condominium Approval, 19267 Centre Street, 1422754 Ontario Limited (Averton)
  • A memo for information and to advise Council of a Community Design Plan application submitted by Jones Consulting Group Ltd. to the Development Services, Planning Branch was on the agenda. The subject lands are located at the northwest corner of Yonge and Green Lane. 

Engineering and Public Works (EPW) reported regarding Streetlight Maintenance, Repairs and Locates Contract Award. EG maintains approximately 3,100 streetlights Town-wide, with approximately 900 additional streetlights expected through approved capital projects and assumption of new developments over the next few years. A memo on streetlight conversion to LED was also on the agenda. 

A train whistle update memo was on the agenda, titled “Review on Anti-Whistling Measures and Update.” 

Fire and Emergency Service (FES) shared a report on the agenda covering the Emergency Management Program Review and Update. A memo sharing the FES Annual Report appeared, as well as a memo on the Green Flashing Light Program.

Statutory meetings for a Proposed Zoning By-law Amendment Application 21383 Woodbine Avenue, and a Proposed Town Initiated Zoning By-law Amendment Application Yorkwood Homes [Part of Lots 8 and 9, Concession 2] also took place.

Complete Communities Secondary Plan Public Information Session 
East Gwillimbury is undergoing a Complete Street Secondary Plan to set the stage for future development of the whitebelt lands within the Town’s Urban Boundary. A Secondary Plan is required to establish the land use designations and specific policies to guide the future development and growth of these areas. The final plan will set out the overall vision and policies related to the area it covers. The Secondary Plan will address items such as height and density of development, what roads and trails are needed, where schools and parks will go, and more.

Memberships in EG
Get ready to move, play and connect! In preparation for the Health and Active Living Plaza, Active EG Passes are changing. Various memberships are available starting June 2. The first 100 people to sign up for a yearly membership will receive a special welcome gift plus an extended membership at no extra cost.

Smoke and CO Alarm Program
Every year EG Fire and Emergency Service (EGFES) conducts the annual Smoke and CO alarm program, which runs from April to October. The EGFES team will test all smoke alarms and CO alarms to make sure they are in good working condition and answer any other fire related questions you have. Register for E-Billing
We are actively monitoring the potential Canada Post labour disruption. Please note that property owners and tenants are still responsible for making property tax and water and wastewater payments on time. Got questions? We have the answers!
How do I get my bill if Canada Post is on strike?

  • Residents are encouraged to sign up for e-billing or register for online account access to view a PDF copy of their property tax and water bills.
  • Visit the EG Civic Centre and request a printed copy of your bill at the Customer Service desk or email waterbilling@eastgwillimbury.ca or taxes@eastgwillimbury.ca for a PDF copy of the bill.

East Gwillimbury Artisan and Farmers Market
Join us every Thursday at the Civic Centre from 2 to 7 p.m. from May to September for the EG Artisan and Farmers Market. Connect with local farmers, indulge in sweet treats, browse unique artisan vendors, and enjoy the family fun atmosphere while supporting local businesses! Community Cleanup Program
Help keep our neighbourhoods, parks and trails clean! Do you want to get involved? Join us at the following Community Cleanup dates:

  • May 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sharon Hills Park
  • June 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ridgeview Park and Vista Hills Park

Plan your own!

  • Email the Environmental team your name, proposed date/time of the clean-up and location for the clean-up activity, and where the filled waste bags will be located after the cleanup. If you are organizing a large group event, please include that in your email.
  • Kits can be picked up in Customer Service at the Civic Centre, 19000 Leslie Street, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Kits contain gloves and garbage bags.

With a library card, you can get free access to the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA). CELA provides print alternatives in multiple formats for books, magazines, newspapers, and described videos. Anyone who has a visual, physical, or learning disability that affects their ability to read print can sign up for this service.
