A look back  – 

Committee of the Whole Council (CWC) – 10 a.m. June 3 

Finance brought forward a report of the Draft Audited Financial Statements. 

Finance was awarded the Canadian Award for financial reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The award encourages municipal governments throughout Canada to publish high-quality financial reports and provides peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports. 

Development Services (DS) (By-law branch) shared a report on entering into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Georgina Trail Riders Snowmobile. 

Also on the agenda on June 3:  

  • Development Services, Planning Branch Report DS2025-12: Town Initiated Zoning By-law Amendment, Yorkwood Homes Phase 3, Part of Lots 8 and 9, Concession 2 [File: ZBA.25.08] 
  • Development Services Report DS2025-13: Request for Residential Servicing Allocation, Holland Hope Limited Partnership, 19349, 19357, 19365 and 19399 Yonge Street [Related Files: OPA.22.01, ZBA.22.02, 19T-22001 and OLT-23-000445] 
  • Development Services Memo: Proposed Zoning By-law Amendment, Southeast corner of Highway 11 and Crimson King Way [File: ZBA.25.07] 

DS and Finance together shared a memo on Bill 17, the Protect Ontario by Building Faster and Smarter Act, 2025, which proposes numerous changes to multiple statutes. A summary of key changes was shared. 

Parks, Recreation and Culture shared a report on Themed Crosswalks and Walkways. 

Corporate Services shared a memo on the potential implications of the proposed provincial Bill 5, the Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act, 2025, on EG’s adopted Environmental Strategy and ongoing environmental initiatives.

Several items for recommendation and adoption of minutes appeared on the agenda.  

As a part of the agenda, Council proceeded into a Closed Meeting of Municipal Council on several matters.

Complete Communities Secondary Plan Public Information Session 
East Gwillimbury is undergoing a Complete Street Secondary Plan to set the stage for future development of the whitebelt lands within the Town’s Urban Boundary. A Secondary Plan is required to establish the land use designations and specific policies to guide the future development and growth of these areas. The final plan will set out the overall vision and policies related to the area it covers. The Secondary Plan will address items such as height and density of development, what roads and trails are needed, where schools and parks will go, and more.

Register for E-Billing
We are actively monitoring the potential Canada Post labour disruption. Please note that property owners and tenants are still responsible for making property tax and water and wastewater payments on time. Got questions? We have the answers!

How do I get my bill if Canada Post is on strike?

  • Residents are encouraged to sign up for e-billing or register for online account access to view a PDF copy of their property tax and water bills.
  • Visit the EG Civic Centre and request a printed copy of your bill at the Customer Service desk or email waterbilling@eastgwillimbury.ca or taxes@eastgwillimbury.ca for a PDF copy of the bill.

Zoning By-law Update
East Gwillimbury (EG) has initiated a review and update of the Town’s Zoning By-law to ensure conformity with applicable provincial, regional and municipal legislation. A public open house will be held on June 25, 2025, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. (presentation followed by Q&A with staff) at the EG Sports Complex (Canada Hall A) 1914B Mt Albert Rd, Sharon. Fill By-law Update
East Gwillimbury is working on an updated Site Alteration and Fill By-law. An updated by-law is required to ensure the by-law is current, aligned with Ministries regulations and includes best practices. Learn more about the proposed changes or share your feedback at eastgwillimbury.ca/FillBylaw.

Splash and Save
Interested in Aquatics? We've created the Splash and Save program to help recruit aquatic staff to team EG at the new Health and Active Living Plaza!

  • Earn your certifications as a National Lifeguard or Swim Instructor this summer.
  • Once certified, you’ll be eligible to interview with our Aquatics team!
  • If you join Team EG, you become eligible for reimbursement of your course fees!

Community Cleanup Program
Help keep our neighbourhoods, parks and trails clean! Do you want to get involved? Join us at the Community Cleanup on June 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ridgeview Park and Vista Hills Park.

Plan your own!

  • Email the Environmental team your name, proposed date/time of the clean-up and location for the clean-up activity, and where the filled waste bags will be located after the cleanup. If you are organizing a large group event, please include that in your email.
  • Kits can be picked up in Customer Service at the Civic Centre, 19000 Leslie Street, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Kits contain gloves and garbage bags.

This course will cost $130 for the full course certification. The recertification is only available on Sunday for $82.00.

Mount Albert Sports Day Spring Fair
East Gwillimbury is excited for the upcoming Mount Albert Sports Day Spring Fair from June 6 to 8! Please be advised that to ensure the safety of all residents, there will be temporary road closures in effect:

  • Main Street from Victoria Street to Centre Street - Friday, June 6 at 4 p.m. to Sunday, June 8 at 6 p.m.
  • Main Street, Doane Road, King Street, and Centre Street - Saturday, June 7 from 7:30 to 10 a.m. for the 5K run/walk. These closures will also impact all residential side streets.

Pedestrian access to businesses will not be affected.

  • Pride Hangout – LGBTQIA2S+ youth and allies, enjoy a weekly Pride Hangout where you can discuss your favourite Pride books and make a weekly craft.
  • Pride Cricut Rainbow Hanger – Design and cut out designs on Cricut and apply them to acrylic rainbows to display and celebrate.
  • Pride Keychains - Design and create your very own keychain. 
  • Pride Bracelets – Make a bracelet to prepare for the York Pride festival.
  • Rainbow Storytime - Celebrate love, diversity, and inclusion at our Rainbow Storytime, honouring Pride and families of all kinds.
