 Council Highlights

A look forward  – 
May 6, 2025 – Committee of the Whole Council (CWC) – 10 a.m. 
A joint Finance and Legal and Legislative Services Memo regarding Council Discretionary Expenses will be on the agenda.

Development Services (DS) will share a Presentation and Memo on EG’s Complete Communities Secondary Plan Update. The purpose of the Secondary Plan is to establish a more detailed planning framework and urban land uses in accordance with the policies in the EG Official Plan and Region of York Official Plan, consistent with current Provincial Policy.

DS will also share additional reports and memos, including a 2024 Year End Building Activity Memo. Review the agenda.
Corporate Services (CS) will bring forward three updates: 

CS and Parks, Recreation and Culture (PRC) are bringing forward exciting updates in the Health and Active Living Plaza Grand Opening Program Memo.

Engineering and Public Works is bringing forward two Revitalization updates: a Memo on the Downtown Mount Albert Revitalization, and a Report on the Yonge Street Revitalization.

A closed portion of the meeting will also take place as a part of the CWC to deal with the following matter: “Legal opinion regarding the duties of Members of Council in carrying out the activities of their office”.

Sharon Hills Tennis Courts Construction
Construction has started at Sharon Hills Pickleball Court (191 Colonel Wayling Boulevard). The park remains open during construction. The construction is contained to the south end of the parking lot and open grass area next to the tennis court. The construction is expected to be complete in July! Smoke and CO Alarm Program
Every year EG Fire and Emergency Service (FES) conducts the annual Smoke and CO alarm program, which runs from April to October. The EGFES team will test all smoke alarms and CO alarms to make sure they are in good working condition and answer any other fire related questions you have. East Gwillimbury Farmers Market
The EG Artisan and Farmers Market opens on May 22, and we want you! We are looking for vendors for the upcoming season. Interested in joining us? We are looking for businesses, farmers, community groups, not-for-profit organizations, youth entrepreneurs, and food trucks to join our 2025 season.

Community Cleanup Program
Help keep our neighbourhoods, parks and trails clean! Do you want to get involved? Join us at the following Community Cleanup dates:

  • May 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Holland Landing Community Centre
  • May 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Vivian Creek Park
  • May 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sharon Hills Park
  • June 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ridgeview Park and Vista Hills Park

Plan your own!

  • Email the Environmental team your name, proposed date/time of the clean-up and location for the clean-up activity, and where the filled waste bags will be located after the cleanup. If you are organizing a large group event, please include that in your email.
  • Kits can be picked up in Customer Service at the Civic Centre, 19000 Leslie Street, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Kits contain gloves and garbage bags.
