Covid-19 Updates

A staff memo was presented to Council outlining key Town COVID-19 updates. Items covered in the Memo include termination of Town’s State of Emergency, public access to the Civic Centre and proof of vaccination requirements for entering Town recreation facilities. Official Plan (OP) Review Update

EG’s Land Needs Assessment and Discussion Papers were presented as part of the Town’s OP Review Update. The documents were developed based on the background research and public consultation undertaken for the project to date, and are intended to inform the upcoming development of the Draft Updated OP. Once prepared, the Draft Updated OP will also be subject to further public consultation and review. Economic Development Strategy

Staff presented EG’s updated 2021 – 2026 Economic Development Strategy. The strategy focuses on investment readiness, investment attraction, business retention and expansion, entrepreneurship development and enhanced communications. The strategy was endorsed in principle and will be discussed further during a future Council Workshop. To view the strategy, visit our Advantage EG website.

2022 Municipal Election Voting Methods

Staff presented an overview of the various voting methods and the results of the How I Vote campaign, seeking feedback on preferred voting methods for the 2022 Municipal Election. Council approved a hybrid option for 2022, which includes the continued use of traditional paper ballots for both advance voting period as well as on voting day; and the introduction of internet voting for advance voting period for the 2022 Municipal and School Board Elections.

EG Public Library (EGPL) Lockers now available

As part of the Town’s modernization program, EGPL has launched its new Library Lockers at the EG Sports Complex. This new self-service option allows residents to access books, holds and returns all in one central location. For details, visit the EG Public Library website.

Public Notices

Parking Lot Closure 

The Vivian Creek Parking Lot will be closed from October 4 to 15 to complete improvements. Please use the Ross Family Complex Parking Lot located at 19300 Centre Street during construction. Pedestrian traffic will have a designated route with signage to follow during construction. We apologize for any inconvenience this closure may cause.

Splash Pads Closed for the Season 

All Town splash pad locations have closed for the season. If you’re looking for seasonal outdoor fun in EG, visit our Parks and Trails page to find a park or trail near you!

Remembering Jack Hauseman

On September 21, the Town unveiled a tree at the entrance of the Holland Landing Community Centre in honour of former Councillor Jack Hauseman who dedicated 14 years to serving the East Gwillimbury community.

Vaccination Requirements for Town Facilities

All visitors to community centres including the EG Sports Complex, Ross Family Complex and Holland Landing Community Centre will need to show their vaccination receipt. Visitors to the EG Civic Centre and Public Library will not be required to provide proof of vaccination.

Visitors are still required to abide by current health regulations, such as not entering if you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, mask wearing and social distancing. For more information, visit our COVID-19 Updates page.

EG Virtual Art Show and Sale - Calling all artists! The Arts and Culture Advisory Committee is pleased to present the 2nd Annual EG Virtual Art Show and Sale. Artists are invited to submit pieces for the show and sale by completing the online application on our Art Show page. The deadline to submit pieces has been extended until Monday, October 4. If you have any questions, email the Arts and Culture Advisory Committee 

East Gwillimbury 55’n Up Club Unveiling - On Friday, October 1 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the EG Sports Complex, all EG residents ages 55 and older are invited to join the unveiling of the NEW Seniors’ Association - The East Gwillimbury 55’n Up Club! Come meet other seniors and learn what this club is about. All attendees will receive a ‘snack-pack’ to go!

Farm to Fork - On Saturday, October 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. come enjoy the 6th Annual Farm to Fork Tour. This self-guided tour will let you explore eight unique farms in East Gwillimbury, learn from farmers and shop local. Tickets are $5 for adults and free for kids. EG Farmer’s Market - Come join us at the Civic Centre every Thursday from 2 to 7 p.m. and meet new and local vendors for delicious treats, produce, decor items, and more. To learn more, visit our Farmers' Market page.

James Anglican Church Food Pantry - Open every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to noon, located at 18804 Leslie Street. Residents can drop in to the food pantry for assistance, if you require clothing, please call 905-478-1959 to make arrangements for pick-up.
