East Gwillimbury (EG) is inviting residents and community members to the Health and Active Living Plaza Grand Opening Weekend. Join the celebration and be a part of EG history on Friday, October 17 from 5 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, October 18 and Sunday, October 19 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 160 Jim Mortson Drive.

The inaugural weekend activities include an initial look at EG’s first Aquatic Centre, complete with lap pool, lazy river, therapy pool, and diving board. As EG’s largest recreation and culture space at more than 80,000 square feet, residents can also celebrate all that is now permanently open to serve EG’s growing community, including a walking track, fitness facilities, meeting spaces and gymnasium space for various activities. The weekend of activities also marks the opening of EG’s third library branch, featuring a Makerspace, Design Studio, 26,000 items to borrow, and more.

  • Georgina Island First Nation smudging ceremony and drumming circle

  • Library demonstrations (including the Makerspace and Design Studio)

  • Opportunities to meet EG staff

Free transportation is available from various pick-up locations.

No memberships are required to enter or use the facility, which includes an indoor play space, seating, Zoup food and beverage vendor, Customer Service desk, and bookable meeting spaces. Residents can further engage through paid programming and various memberships such as library cards, Active EG Memberships, and fitness memberships through Matrix of Motion, a fitness organization offering classes and training through the Health and Active Living Plaza space.

The Health and Active Living Plaza features electric vehicle charging stations, rainwater harvesting, Smart AI technology and other environmentally-friendly features. The outdoor park space, set to open in 2026, will include multi-use courts, a splash pad, playground structure, skate park and pump track, event space and cooking space.
