Council highlights meeting banner

Council highlights from the July 19 and 21 meetings.

2022 Danby Certificate - The Town received the 2022 EA Danby Certificate of Merit in the category of Municipal Administration for the Municipal Peak Performance Program: A Culture of Service Delivery Innovation. The Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario awarded the Certificate to the Town in recognition of the program that helps staff drive innovation, improve service and reduce costs across the organization.

Loblaw Companies Ltd. Development - Council approved the site plan application for the property on Woodbine Avenue just north of Green Lane East at the Rice Group development site. This will be the location of an advanced logistics and distribution centre for Loblaw Companies Limited. The site will also have a truck refueling station, stormwater management pond, pumping station and associated surface parking for vehicles including transport trucks and trailers. This is the largest employment development in the Town’s history.

2018-2022 Council Term in Review - Staff presented the 2018-2022 Council Term in Review and noted that the COVID-19 Pandemic was a major unplanned event in this term of Council which had an enormous impact on the Town and its operations. At the same time, East Gwillimbury experienced unprecedented growth in population and construction, so the demand for programs, services, and infrastructure grew. Despite the challenges associated with COVID-19 and the growth, the goals of the 2019-2022 Strategic Plan were achieved. The presentation highlighted key accomplishments associated with each of the Strategic Plan’s four pillars.
