The Town of East Gwillimbury (EG) is proud to announce that our Finance department has been awarded the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting (CAFR) for the seventh consecutive year in a row by the Government of Finance Officers Association (GFOA). This award was given in recognition of the Town’s 2024 Financial Report, which exceeded the basic requirements of a financial plan in Canadian local governments.
The award-winning 2024 Annual Financial Report includes an in-depth outline of the Town's financial plans and highlights the Town’s strong financial stewardship as one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Canada. The 2024 report is submitted to GFOA in 2025 and then recognized in 2026. To read the 2024 Financial Report for the year ending December 31, 2024, visit eastgwillimbury.ca/FinancialReports.
“We are honoured to receive this recognition for East Gwillimbury’s financial reporting, which reflects Council’s ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible financial management,” says Mayor Virginia Hackson. “From maintaining the lowest relative property taxes in York Region to delivering projects like the Health and Active Living Plaza, we remain focused on balancing affordability and long-term sustainability while providing a vibrant, resilient, and well-managed community today and in the future.”
The GFOA represents government finance officials across Canada and the United States. Their overall mission is to advance excellence in public finance, making this award a huge accomplishment for our Finance. The award recognizes municipalities that produce high-quality, easily readable reports that conform to program requirements, go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles and evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure.
