East Gwillimbury Fire and Emergency Service (EGFES) have lifted the burn ban as of noon on August 21, 2025, and reinstated all previously approved burn permits.

A burn permit is required for all open air burning in East Gwillimbury. Residents can apply for burn permits, as required, through the online portal at eastgwillimbury.ca/BurnPermit.

Despite the burn ban being lifted, EGFES is reminding residents to be cautious and fire safe. When near an open-air burn:

  • Always supervise outdoor fires and keep a phone close to call emergency services if needed.
  • When you are done with the fire, ensure it is completely extinguished by pouring water or sand on it.
  • Always have a hose, bucket of water, or sand nearby in case the fire gets out of control.
  • Supervise children around any outdoor fires.
  • Never burn plastics, construction debris, treated lumber, tires, pesticides, paint, or aerosol containers.
  • Never use gasoline or other flammable liquids to start a fire.
  • Keep fires at least 10 metres from any structure or anything that may burn or melt.

Remember, fire safety begins with you. Learn how you can keep your loved ones safe from everyday dangers at eastgwillimbury.ca/FES.
