The Town of East Gwillimbury (EG) strives to ensure that its governance, operations and activities are conducted in a manner that is accountable and transparent, while also safeguarding the privacy and personal information of the public.

The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) establishes the framework for providing access to public information while ensuring the protection of personal information.

The Town offers access to municipal information through various access routes. There may be a fee to cover the cost of reviewing and copying files. Fees are subject to change in accordance with the Town’s fees and charges by-law.

  • Request a records search to see if a survey is available for your property and obtain a copy. Available to the owner of the property or an authorized agent of the owner.
  • A property survey provides property dimensions (shows property boundaries, structures, setbacks, distance to roads, etc.). The survey is the legal document that outlines the property.

  • Request a records search to see if a septic plan is available for your property and obtain a copy. Available to the owner of the property or an authorized agent of the owner.

Building Permit Application Status
  • Status of current building permits can be obtained by the owner of the property or an authorized agent of the owner by contacting the Building Branch – contact building@eastgwillimbury.ca.

  • The Town provides engineering Drawing Packages that show the location of Town infrastructure to land surveyors, developers, engineers, and municipalities.

The Province has well record data from 1989 to present.
Electrical/plumbing drawings 
  • The Town does not require or review plumbing drawings, only that the work be completed by a licensed plumber.
  • The Town does not require electrical drawings; permits for electrical work must be filed with the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA).
Garage licences

To renew a garage licence or obtain licences for previous garages, applications can be submitted to the Province.

Cemetery inquiries
  • Please be advised that the Town does not provide response letters for cemetery searches on or near a property. The Town is the provincially licensed operator, but not the registered landowner of six inactive cemeteries within the boundary of the municipality: Franklin Pioneer, Mount Albert Methodist, Pegg, Selby Burying Ground, Widdell, and Cowieson.
  • Any additional due diligence required would be best conducted through the services of an archeologist. Some additional resources you could consult are:
