Update on Animal Services Incident

The Town of Aurora provides Animal Services to the Town of East Gwillimbury. On May 4, Aurora Animal Services Officers responded to a call involving two dogs in East Gwillimbury.

During the response, one dog was taken into Animal Services' care; however, the other became unresponsive and died. One officer sustained injuries.

This is a deeply upsetting situation for everyone involved. Our thoughts are with the families and all those affected. We recognize the strong bonds people share with their pets and the grief this situation brings to the community.

As the contracted service provider, the Town of Aurora is leading a review, and East Gwillimbury is supporting their process. 

We understand that people are seeking more information and ask the community to be respectful and appreciate everyone’s patience while the review is ongoing.
