The Town of Aurora issued a statement today regarding the May 4, 2026 death of a dog during an Animals Services response in East Gwillimbury. Following the incident, the Town of Aurora commissioned a third-party review through Canine Foundations. The statement outlined that Aurora received the report and is currently in the process of preparing the document for public release. As per privacy law, they are required to redact all personal and identifiable information. Once this is complete the report will be released.
This matter has been difficult and deeply concerning for members of our community including the dog’s owners and for those who witnessed the incident. The Town is committed to ensuring the report is reviewed with care, transparency and respect for everyone affected.
East Gwillimbury continues to work with Aurora and will review the report, once available, to ensure that our community, pets, and all animals receive the care and respect they deserve.
