A newly completed wooden waterfront boardwalk and viewing area along the edge of a calm river. The boardwalk features railings, benches, interpretive signage and a dock access point, running parallel to a paved roadway. Naturalized shoreline vegetation and mature trees line the opposite bank under a clear blue sky.
East Gwillimbury is pleased to announce the completion of the Soldiers Bay (82 Queensville Sideroad West) Redevelopment Project, a collaborative initiative that enhances the shoreline while strengthening environmental stewardship and public education.
Developed in partnership with the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority, the project features shoreline restoration and environmental improvements designed to support a healthier ecosystem. The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority and Georgina Island First Nation also played a key role in developing educational signage that highlights the cultural and environmental significance of the Holland River and surrounding area.

Improvements include:

  • Installation of an elevated boardwalk along the shoreline
  • Installation of a floating dock equipped with an accessible canoe/kayak lift to support inclusive, non-motorized recreational boating opportunities
  • Construction of a new asphalt parking lot to improve site access
  • Shoreline restoration and stabilization, drainage improvements, and native plantings
  • Installation of educational and interpretive signage

We invite residents and visitors to explore the revitalized waterfront, connect with the area's natural and cultural heritage, and experience all that Soldiers Bay has to offer this fall.
