This notice is for anyone proposing to be a candidate in the 2026 municipal and school board elections on October 26, 2026. Nominations for the positions listed below must be filed on the prescribed form available either in person or by your agent, with the Returning Officer or designate during normal office hours commencing May 1 to August 20, 2026, and between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on August 21, 2026 (Nomination Day).
Please make an appointment with Election Services to file your nomination. Appointments can be arranged by emailing elections@eastgwillimbury.ca or contacting Election Services at 905-478-4282.
Each proposed candidate must file the prescribed declaration form signed by at least 25 persons (School Board candidates are exempt). The required filing fee for the Head of Council is $200, and all other offices are $100 (cash, debit, or certified cheque made payable to the Municipality of East Gwillimbury).
Candidates must not spend or raise any funds for their election campaign until the registration/nomination form has been filed. Detailed information regarding the nomination process, including the formal Notice of Nomination, is available on the Town’s election website at electionseg.ca.
For School Board Trustee nominations, candidates must file their nomination papers with the Municipal Clerk of the designated municipality for the applicable school board.
