The Town of East Gwillimbury (EG) is pleased to launch two new awards to recognize outstanding volunteers in the community as part of the 2026 Volunteer Appreciation event. Each year, during National Volunteer Week, EG hosts an appreciation event to celebrate and thank our amazing volunteers for lending their time, ideas and expertise to our community. Nominations are now open for the Bill Potts Volunteer Legacy and Outstanding Youth awards, which celebrate and recognize the dedicated volunteers who help make EG a great place to live, work and play.
As part of this year’s event, community members are invited to nominate exceptional individuals who exemplify outstanding service and community contributions for:
“Volunteering and giving back to our community in any capacity is a truly selfless act. Our town is fortunate to have so many dedicated volunteers who support our community groups, sports organizations, advisory committees, and Town events simply because they care”, says Mayor Virginia Hackson. “Every week should feel like Volunteer Appreciation Week, and I am incredibly proud of every volunteer for the positive impact and difference they make in EG.”
This also marks the first year a community volunteer will be awarded the Bill Potts Legacy award, which honours the Legacy of Mr. Potts, an outstanding EG volunteer who gave back to this community for over 25 years. We’re proud to continue to celebrate his legacy and how much he cared about his community. The first Bill Potts Volunteer Legacy award recipient will be selected by a committee, which will include his wife, Ann Potts.
The Volunteer Appreciation event will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the EG Sports Complex (1914B Mount Albert Road). The evening will include a buffet dinner and an award presentation to thank volunteers for their dedication, selflessness, and impact across the community. Registration is required for the appreciation event. Visit our website to complete the registration form to reserve your spot.
To nominate volunteers who make an impact, please visit our Volunteer Appreciation page to complete the nomination form by Friday, March 20.
