Slow down, East Gwillimbury! Motorists travelling through Mount Albert are advised that the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has implemented a new 60 km/h speed limit on a section of Highway 48.
Effective October 21, 2026, the new speed limit applies from north of the Shell gas station to south of the Mount Albert Road intersection.
The change follows a comprehensive review conducted by the MTO, which considered factors including traffic volumes, pedestrian and cyclist activity, roadway characteristics and driver behaviour. Based on its review, the MTO determined that 60 km/h is the most appropriate speed limit for this section of Highway 48.
The Town worked closely with the MTO throughout the review process and recognizes the importance of the updated speed limit in an area that serves local businesses and experiences regular vehicle, pedestrian and cyclist activity.
Motorists are reminded to watch for the new speed limit signs and adjust their speed accordingly.
