Public Notices

Please Conserve Water

Low rain fall in the spring has contributed to early drought conditions. The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority is reccomending that businesses and residents reduce water consumption while the dry weather continues. Visit our Water Conservation page to learn more about EG’s Outdoor Water Use By-law.

Please Don't Feed Wildlife

Feeding wild animals human food can cause them to suffer from health problems and lead to behavioural changes and concerns. For more information, visit www. lsrca.on.ca/Pages/3-Reasons-You-Shouldnt-Feed-Wildlife.aspx

Property Taxes Due

Final 2021 residential tax bills have been mailed and payments are due on August 31 and October 29. Payments can be made at the Town’s Dropbox located outside of the Civic Centre, at your bank, online/phone banking or through a preauthorized payment plan.

If your tax account is not current, a pre-set monthly payment can be arranged to help you catch up on tax arrears. Unpaid taxes will be charged 1.25% interest per month effective the first day of default. Failure to receive a tax bill does not exempt the bill from being due or from incurring interest. Please contact the Town at 905-478- 4282 or email for any questions.

Visit our Business Bounce Back Program page for more information. Applications are now being accepted for the first cohort until June 27.

Lymantria Dispar Dispar (LDD / Gypsy Moths)

LDD is an invasive caterpillar that has been found throughout York Region. The outbreak occurs on a cycle every 7 to 10 years. Although they are a nuisance and eat the leaves, they will not kill your tree and the leaves will grow back. The caterpillars do not bite or sting, however, the little hairs on the LDD caterpillar may cause an allergic reaction.

What is the Town doing?

The Town is monitoring trees in hotspot locations throughout EG and is part of York Region’s Invasive Species Technical Working Group. At this time, no municipalities are spraying, as the sprays may cause harm or kill other species that are helpful to our wider ecosystem.

What can you do?

Residents can wrap burlap or clear packing tape around trees to prevent caterpillars from travelling up the tree trunk.

Burlap Giveaway

We’ve extended our burlap giveaway! Residents can pick up free burlap at the EG Public Library - Holland Landing Branch (while supplies last). Visit our LDD: Protect Your Trees page for their hours and more information.
