Council highlights from the June 7, 2022, meeting

Business Advantage Program
Continuing to act on the recommendations of the economic development strategy, staff delivered a presentation on the Business Advantage program. This program focuses on ensuring that investors and growing businesses have the support and guidance they need to successfully navigate the development process.

2021 Year in Review
Staff presented a “2021 Year in Review” for the EG Emergency Management program. Highlights of 2021 include: continued response to the COVID-19 pandemic, adherence to compliance requirements, training of the control group members, and completion of an annual emergency exercise. Future program efforts include the transition of the Emergency Operations Centre to the new EG Operations Centre and development of EG’s Business Continuity Plans.

Vivian Creek Hiking Trail Realignment
The community is invited to provide input on the Vivian Creek hiking trail realignment. This work is required to address eroding infrastructure. A public meeting will take place on Thursday, June 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Mount Albert Community Centre.

Waste Collection Changes - Back to Two

Grass clippings are not yard waste
The Town reminds residents that grass clippings cannot be collected as yard waste. Consider grasscycling, which means leaving the clippings on your lawn to help keep moisture in the grass and reduce the need for fertilizer.

Notice of Passing - By-law 2022-054
Council passed by-law 2022-054 to rezone a portion of 18818 and 18948 Woodbine Avenue to permit cold storage distribution, a distribution centre, a transport terminal, a stormwater management facility, a pumping station, a truck refuelling station, and a truck repair garage. More specifically, the property is rezoned from Rural (RU) to Employment Prestige – Exception (M1(170)) and Environmental Protection (EP) and Environmental Protection – Exception (EP (171)). Proceeds raised through the East Gwillimbury Mayor & Council Annual Golf Tournament are directed to the Youth & Community Initiatives Fund (YCIF).
