Enhance EG

East Gwillimbury (EG) is excited to announce the improvements coming to downtown Mount Albert as part of the Enhance EG – Mount Albert Downtown Revitalization project.

This collaborative project focuses on the enhancement of Centre Street (between Main Street and Mill Street), Main Street (between Centre Street and the Mount Albert Community Centre), and Bank Street. The revitalization efforts are designed to create a more accessible, safe, and vibrant downtown area that meets the needs of residents, businesses, and visitors alike.

Key updates include:

  • Improved accessibility for pedestrians and motorists
  • Safer streets through improved lighting, completed pedestrian crossover upgrades and all-way stop installation
  • Road resurfacing and sidewalk replacement work for smoother surfaces
  • More parking to support local businesses and shopping
  • Beautifying streets
  • Landscaping features and art
  • Improved drainage
  • New utility replacements and relocations for hydro and telecommunications

Public engagement has been a cornerstone of the project, with two well-attended open houses held in June 2022 and June 2023, and a project initiation survey that garnered 189 responses. Feedback from these sessions has been instrumental in shaping the project's design and implementation.

The project is co-funded through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program and has an anticipated completion of late 2026.
