East Gwillimbury Town Council authorized a Transfer Payment Agreement with the Province of Ontario yesterday for $3.67 million in grant funding which will contribute towards the $5 million cost of replacing watermains in Holland Landing and Sharon.

Funding for this project was secured through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP), a federal-provincial program to create long-term economic growth, build inclusive, sustainable and resilient communities, and support a low-carbon economy. Funding for this project was through ICIP’s “Green Infrastructure” stream.

“Infrastructure funding from the federal and provincial government is critical for municipalities,” said East Gwillimbury Mayor, Virginia Hackson. “We applaud the federal and provincial governments for the ICIP funding which will significantly contribute to the cost of much-needed watermain replacement in two EG communities.”

Through this project, 912 metres of watermain pipe along with valves, service connections and fire hydrants will be replaced along Yonge Street in Holland Landing. The project will also contribute to the Holland Landing – Yonge Street Revitalization project. In Sharon, valves, service connections, fire hydrants and 1186 metres of watermain pipe, will be replaced along Morton Avenue, Mount Albert Road, Charles Street, Howard Avenue and William Street.

The project is expected to begin this year with design and survey work. Consultation with the public will be undertaken as part of the engineering design process and is anticipated to be completed in 2023. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2024 and will be completed by 2027. ICIP funding will be allocated to this portion of the project.
