The Town of East Gwillimbury (EG) is launching a one-year Parking Pilot Program starting on May 1, 2026, to help address growing parking pressures in neighbourhoods and provide the community with new, flexible, safe and accessible parking options.
Over the past several years, the Town has seen an increase in parking complaints, higher by-law enforcement activity and a rise in overnight parking exemption requests. The pilot program will allow the Town to test new strategies and monitor the effectiveness. Following the pilot, staff will report back to Council with recommendations before implementing any permanent changes in EG.
“As our community grows, we’ve heard from residents that they need additional parking options,” says Mayor Virginia Hackson. “This pilot program will help reduce parking pressures in neighbourhoods while allowing the Town to understand parking trends and ensure our streets remain safe and accessible for everyone.”
The pilot includes the following parking strategies to give residents alternate parking options:
- Odd/even on-street parking schedule (on select streets in EG) - The current three-hour parking limit will be removed on Frank Kelly Drive, Four Seasons Crescent, Mondial Crescent, Beechborough Crescent and Hammill Heights and replaced with an odd/even parking schedule year-round. This means that residents can park on the odd-numbered side of the street on odd-numbered calendar days (1st, 3rd, 5th, etc.) and on the even-numbered side on even-numbered days (2nd, 4th, 6th, etc.). Winter parking restrictions remain in effect, and vehicles must not interfere with snow-clearing operations. Overnight parking between 2 and 6 a.m. requires a valid On-Street Overnight Parking Permit.
- Overnight On-Street Parking Permits (Town-wide) - EG is expanding the Overnight Parking Permit program. Residents will continue to receive 15 free on-street overnight parking permits each year. As part of the pilot program, residents who need more can buy up to 15 additional permits for $14 each per night. These permits exempt residents from the three-hour parking limit, allow overnight parking between 2 and 6 a.m. and are not valid during snow-clearing operations. Residents must also follow the rules outlined in EG’s traffic and parking by-laws, including not parking in front of or near fire hydrants and ensuring vehicles are parked facing the correct direction.
- Accessible Parking Exemption (Town-wide) - Residents or visitors with a valid Accessible Parking Permit may park in certain signed no-parking areas. Vehicles must display the Accessible Parking Permit and should not obstruct traffic, block intersections, fire hydrants or be parked in fire routes. The exemption does not apply to the no parking between 2 to 6 a.m. restriction.
- Additional Overnight Parking at Municipal Lots - Residents can purchase Overnight Parking Permits to park at Radial Line Park (19253 Centre Street) or Vivian Creek Park (981 Murrell Boulevard). Permits are available from April 15 to November 1 and allow overnight parking between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. Permits cost $10 for one night, $25 for three nights, $50 for seven nights and $100 for 30 nights. The new permit duration options will also be available at these municipal lots: the Ross Family Complex, Civic Centre and Holland Landing Community Centre year round.
The pilot will run until May 1, 2027, and staff will review data and community feedback before bringing forward recommendations to Council. Residents can share feedback by emailing By-law Enforcement and Services at bylaws@eastgwillimbury.ca.
