The nomination period for the upcoming municipal and school board election has closed and the East Gwillimbury Municipal Clerk has certified the list of candidates. The list is available on the Certified Candidates page.

In Ward One, certified candidates Loralea Carruthers and Terry Foster are acclaimed Councillors-Elect as they were the two registered candidates and there are two positions for each ward. Ward One voters will vote for a Mayoral candidate and a school board trustee.

In Wards Two and Three, voters will vote for Mayoral candidate, Councillor candidates, and a school board trustee.

EG voters are encouraged to check, update, or add their information to the Municipal Voters’ List. The Municipal Voters’ List is separate from federal and provincial voters’ lists; visit www.voterlookup.ca to ensure you’re ready to vote.

For the 2022 municipal election, the Town is introducing online voting as an alternative voting method. In September, voters will receive a voter information letter with their online PIN, and instructions on how to cast their ballot online.

All advance voting locations will have paper ballots and online voting options.

EG voters can cast their ballots:

  • Online – October 8 to 23
  • Advance Polls (online or in-person) – October 8, 13, 15, 17, 19
  • Election Day (in-person and paper ballots only) – October 24

To vote in EG’s 2022 municipal election you must be:

  • A Canadian citizen; and
  • 18 years of age or older; and
  • A resident of the Town of East Gwillimbury; or
  • A non-resident who is, or whose spouse is, an owner or tenant of land in the Town of East Gwillimbury; and
  • Not prohibited from voting by law
