Thermometer in the snow

York Region’s 2022-2023 Cold Weather Response Plan includes safe, temporary housing and support for residents with no alternative housing options – and continues to include adjustments to reduce risks associated with COVID-19. While the pandemic remains a challenge for York Region residents, it continues to have a significant impact on vulnerable populations, including people experiencing homelessness.

York Region will issue a Cold Weather Alert when Environment Canada forecasts temperatures of -15oC or colder, with or without wind chill, for any local municipality in the Region. During a Cold Weather Alert, residents experiencing homelessness can call York Region’s Emergency Housing Central Intake Line at 1-877-464-9675 ext. 76140, where they will be offered assistance. This phone line is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week.Residents can also visit york.ca/extremecold for information and tips about how to stay safe during cold weather.
