Join the Town of East Gwillimbury, the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee and partners from the Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association (NACCA) for various activities and events taking place throughout Black History Month. Everyone is invited to attend and participate in the following events: 

Pan-African Flag Raising Ceremony

Thursday, February 2, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. 

This year for Black History Month the Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association (NACCA) and EG's Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee are hosting a flag raising ceremony on Thursday, February 2 at 11:30 a.m. at the Community flagpole located outside of the Civic Centre. The ceremony will be livestreamed on the Town's Facebook Channel.

Virtual Author Visit: Shauntay Grant 

Tuesday, February 21, 2023 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. 

Students in grades 3 to 8 are invited to join the East Gwillimbury Public Library for a virtual reading for school children, by celebrated author, Shauntay Grant, featuring her book, ‘Africville’, illustrated by Eva Campbell. Africville, was the winner and finalist for several children’s books awards. Shauntay is an author, poet, playwright, and multimedia artist. Her love of literature stretches back to her storytelling roots in Nova Scotia’s historic Black communities.
