Two construction workers wearing high-visibility safety vests and hard hats review site plans beside a large excavator on a road construction site under an overcast sky.

EG’s Site Alteration By-law update aligns with provincial regulations, the Municipal Act, and best practices from neighbouring municipalities, making it easier to understand, use, and enforce.

What’s new?

  • Clear definitions

  • New permit tiers:

    • Minor (0 - 200 m³)

    • Small (200 - 10,000 m³)

    • Large (10,000+ m³)

  • Free Minor Permit for simple landscaping/grading projects
Removal of old low-volume exemptions for better oversight

  • New rules for safely managing liquid fill (e.g.hydro-excavation)

Residents can now apply for a free Minor Permit anytime online, making small projects quick and easy. This update strikes the right balance of streamlined approvals for everyday projects and stronger oversight for larger site alterations.
