East Gwillimbury (EG) has five public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. Only EV's that are plugged in and actively charging may park in the designated spots. These stations are equipped with Level 2 chargers with a maximum output of 7.2 kW that charges an estimated 32 to 64 kms of range per hour and SAE J1772 connectors, ensuring compatibility with most electric vehicles.

EG Charging Station Fees and Locations

EG charging stations charge $2 per hour while actively charging.

When charging is complete and vehicles are still plugged in, $4 per hour will be accumulated (there is a 30-minute grace period from full charge). All EV charging stations are part of the ChargePoint network and use ChargePoint to collect payment.

Charging stations can be found at these facilities:

  • Civic Centre (19000 Leslie Street, Sharon)
  • EG Sports Complex (1914B Mount Albert Road, Sharon)
  • EG Operations Centre (19850 Woodbine Avenue, Queensville)
  • Holland Landing Community Centre (19513 Yonge Street, Holland Landing)
  • Ross Family Complex (19300 Centre Street, Mount Albert)

Overnight parking from 2 to 6 a.m. is not permitted at any Town Facility, including EV charging stations. Please ensure vehicles are not parked during this period to avoid fines.

Environmental Impacts of EV Chargers in EG

The use of EV chargers at Town facilities has offset an estimated:

  • 121,396 kg of greenhouse gas emissions since 2021, equivalent to planting 3,113 trees and letting them grow for 10 years.
  • 280 litres of motor oil per year, representing annual savings of up to $6,800 and 672 kg of carbon dioxide averted.
  • 56 litres of brake fluid and up to 187 litres of antifreeze per year which contain heavy metals and harmful chemicals that can contaminate soil and water. This results in a savings of up to $10,700 per year, and an additional 583 kg of carbon dioxide emissions averted.
Benefits of EVs

There are many benefits of EVs including:

  • Reduced greenhouse gas emissions
  • Reduced operating costs (compared to a gas emission vehicle)
  • Reduced air pollution
  • Reduced noise pollution
