Supporting Health Care Close to Home

Southlake Health has announced plans to become a distributed Health Network over the next decadeThe Province of Ontario supported this announcement and provided $10 million investment to plan for theredevelopment ofSouthlakes existingDavis Drive campusand the construction ofa second acute care hospitalin East Gwillimbury.

Proposed Hospital Location

The new acute care hospital will be located on lands west of Leslie Street and south of the future Bradford Bypass in Queensville.

This location offers sufficient developable land to accommodate a full-service hospital and future expansion, the ability to service the land within required timelines, and a location that improves access for rapidly growing communities across northern York Region and southern Simcoe County.

Its proximity to the future Bradford Bypass and other regional corridors will support timely access to care and improve patient flow across a two-site system in East Gwillimbury and Newmarket, aligning with Southlake’s long-term vision for a Distributed Health Network.

Timeline

With a second site confirmed in East Gwillimbury and provincial investment secured, Southlake is now moving from vision to implementation. The organization will advance to the next stage of the provincial capital planning process, including functional programming, design, and approvals, in close partnership with the Province of Ontario.

Planning will focus not only on buildings, but on how care is delivered across a connected system, ensuring services are designed to meet the needs of a growing and aging population.

Additional timeline details will be shared by Southlake Health.

What This Means for East Gwillimbury

East Gwillimbury continues to grow, with new neighbourhoods, families, and businesses choosing to call our community home. Access to local health care is an important part of building a complete and connected community.

A future hospital in East Gwillimbury will help:

  • Improve access to emergency and inpatient care closer to home
  • Reduce travel times for residents and families
  • Support the needs of a growing and aging population
  • Strengthen health services across northern York Region and southern Simcoe County

Message from Mayor Virginia Hackson

Mayor Hackson The expansion of the Southlake Health Distributed Health Network regionally and into East Gwillimbury will ensure our growing communities have access to high-quality health care close to home. As East Gwillimbury continues to grow, significant investments like this will help residents and families connect to the services they need, when they need them. We look forward to working with Southlake Health, the Province of Ontario, York Region, and regional partners to strengthen healthcare capacity for our residents and for communities across York Region.
