Understanding Water/Sewer Bills

There are several components that make up EG's water/sewer bills.

The usage charge on your bill is based on the amount of water used per billing period. To lower this rate, consider implementing water conservation techniques. Visit York Region’s website for tips and ideas on how you and your family can help limit water usage and conserve water.

The delivery charges on your bill are a fixed rate that ensures when you turn on your taps, you receive clean and safe drinking water that is also taken away in the wastewater system once finished. The charges also pay for:

  • Repair and replacement of infrastructure (pipes, pumping stations etc.)
  • Staff time (to conduct inspections, maintain infrastructure etc.)
  • Treatment of water in the wastewater system
