Joe Persechini, Councillor Ward 2

Councillor Joe Persechini was elected to Council in 2014 and is currently serving his second term as a Town Councillor. 

Through his time as Councillor, Joe was chair of the Corporate Service department and Council liaison to the Accessibility Advisory Committee, the North Union Community Recreation Centre Committee, Mount Albert Community Recreation Centre Committee and the Environmental Advisory Committee. 

In 1975, Joe started a very successful fitness centre and managed it for 38 years growing it from 5000 square feet to 30,000 square feet, serving over 3000 members. In 1976, Joe initiated the 10-km Run/Walkathon for Easter Seals which over 38 years has raised nearly $4 million to support physically disabled children and their families. He has a strong business management and community service background that will guide his decisions as he represents the residents of East Gwillimbury. 

Councillor Persechini was presented with the Governor General’s Caring Award for community service in 1999 and the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in 2002. He has received many citations and awards for his outstanding community service in York Region including being the chair to the Southlake Regional Health Centre's Fundraising campaign in 2005 that raised 1.8 million towards rebuilding the Whipper Billy Watson physiotherapy pool. Councillor Persechini also served on the York Region Police Services Board from 2004-2010, and spent the last 3 years as Vice-Chair. Councillor Persechini moved to East Gwillimbury eight years ago and is very proud to be part of this great community.

I would like to thank the residents of Ward 2, for re-electing me to Town Council. I am passionate about representing all residents of East Gwillimbury for the next four years to ensure that the Town continues to grow in a way that will be inclusive to newcomers and current residents equally. I will continuing to be a strong advocate for all residents and ensure your voice is heard in Council.
