Broadband services are not part of municipal infrastructure and provided by private companies. However, East Gwillimbury (EG) is taking several steps to advocate for enhanced internet connectivity throughout the community.

Advantage EG, the EG Economic Development team, is working with the York Region-owned YorkNet Telecom Network Inc. as they grow York Region’s high-speed dark-fiber network. For updates on YorkNet’s expansion projects, sign up for their newsletter.

Help Us Identify Gaps – Test Your Internet Speed

The Town has partnered with the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA), who manage the .ca domain across Canada, to bring updated speed testing to EG. By running the speed test, residents can assist the Town and internet service providers in identifying the gaps in the system and advocate for improvements.

Free Public WiFi in EG

EG residents and visitors can enjoy free internet access outside of the Civic Centre, Holland Landing Community Centre, and Ross Family Complex. WiFi hotspots can be accessed within 12 meters at the following locations:

  • Civic Centre - front entrance visitor parking spaces
  • Holland Landing Community Centre - front entrance facing the windows
  • Ross Family Complex - front entrance facing the windows

The East Gwillimbury Public Library offers mobile internet hotspots you can borrow with your library card.

Broadband Working Group
The Broadband Working Group was established by Council in 2019 and consists of volunteer members of the community with relevant technical knowledge and an interest in expanding reliable, affordable broadband. This group meets regularly with providers about opportunities to leverage new technologies and encourage expansion of broadband services across the community.
