Sports Complex East Ice Pad & Lobby Renovations
Town Receives Recreation Infrastructure Canada Grant
In April 2009 the Community Programs and Infrastructure Department (CPI) applied for and successfully received a funding grant in the amount of $2,900,195.00 from the Recreation Infrastructure Canada Fund (RInC) for the renovation of the East Ice Pad and Lobby of the Sports Complex. RInC Funding structure provides one third of the total grant from the Provincial Government, one third from the Federal Government and the remaining third from the Town. All projects receiving funding from the RInC are required to be completed by March 31, 2011. Staff prepared a "Request for Proposal" with "Terms of Reference" documents and a call for proposals went out on September 1, 2009. As a result of the "Call of Proposals" the Town has retained Kneider Architects of Toronto to design and oversee construction for the renovation of the East Pad.

Currently
Kneider Architects have been meeting with Town staff, EGMHA and EGFS to develop a conceptual schematic design for the project based on needs indicated and discussed through the aforementioned meetings. A recommended Design Concept was presented to Council and approved at the Council Community of the Whole meeting on December 21, 2009. Next Steps
Once a Design Concept has been approved by Council the Architects are working diligently on the detail design drawings and preparing construction detail drawings for the preparation of the construction tenders. The East Pad will close on March 8, 2010 so staff can remove the ice surface in order to allow the frost in the subsurface to begin to dissipate. Consultants estimate that every foot of frost found under the concrete ice pad will take one week to dissipate. Once the frost has cleared demolition will begin. Construction is estimated to begin in mid April.
