Opening a Tenant Account

BY COMPLETING THIS FORM, THE PROPERTY OWNER ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THE WATER ACCOUNT IS BEING SET UP IN THE NAME OF THE TENANT AND THE PROPERTY OWNER:

  1. At the owner's request, the water bill will be sent directly to the tenant in the name of the tenant and the property owner.  In the event that any water bills are returned, the water account will be changed back to the property owner’s name and address. The property owner will not receive a copy of the water bill from the Town.

  2. Property owners are authorized and encouraged to make inquiries on the status of the tenant’s account by contacting our customer service department. Notification of an unpaid water bill will be sent directly to the tenant in the name of the tenant and the property owner. The property owner will not be notified of an unpaid water bill. 

  3. If the water bill remains outstanding after a notice of an unpaid water bill has been sent to the tenant, the overdue bill (s) may be added to the property owner’s tax account at the discretion of the Town, in accordance with the Municipal Act. Any payments not honored by the tenant may be added to the property owner’s tax account at the discretion of the Town, in accordance with the Municipal Act. (penalty at 1.25% per calendar month will accumulate on the tax account). Administration fees will be charged for these transactions.  

  4. It is the property owner’s responsibility to notify the Town of any tenant changes by completing the CLOSING A TENANT ACCOUNT form. A final bill will be issued to the tenant and if not paid the outstanding balance will be added to the property owner’s tax account.

  5.  Please note that a name change service fee of $31 will be charged to the tenant.
