Senior Safety

Statistics have shown that, 30 per cent of all fire fatalities in Ontario involved people 65+. Older adults are twice as likely to be killed or injured by fires compared to the population at large. These alarming statistics show that adults over the age of 65 are one of the most vulnerable groups regarding fire and life safety. With most fires occurring in the home, it is important that seniors know how to protect themselves, are prepared, and live in an environment that is free from fire hazards.

East Gwillimbury Emergency and Community Safety Services offers Fire Safety for Older Adults program to local seniors to ensure that fire safety is being considered in the homes of seniors living on their own.
